UPDATE 08:19 UTC : Due to the depth of the hypocenter (the location in the earth where the energy was released) this earthquake has been felt almost the same way in an area of more than 500 km. So, there will be only a very light difference in between the MMI shaking on top of the epicenter and for example 250 km more inland.
UPDATE 08:18 UTC : The earthquake has been felt as a weak III MMI shaking in Guatemala City.

A strong but luckily deep earthquake struck in the Tapachula area near the Mexican / Guatemala border.
The epicenter is only a couple of km from the Tapachula coastal area and almost on the border with Guatemala
49 km (30 miles) S of Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico and 98 km (60 miles) WSW of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
The earthquake will be widely felt in the area.
USGS is expecting a max. moderate shaking (V MMI). This shaking will be felt by almost 1.5 million people.
