Wind-Driven Wildfires Threaten Homes Near Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (Sept. 29) - A wind-whipped brush fire quickly doubled in size early Thursday to at least 7,000 acres, destroying at least one home and prompting evacuations as a ridge of flames was visible for miles.
AP
Flames engulf a home just off Santa Susana Road in the Chatsworth section of Los Angeles.

The blaze burned to the edge of a number of multimillion-dollar homes that abut rural, picturesque hillsides in the San Fernando Valley. Homes in several communities in Los Angeles and Ventura counties were evacuated, but officials did not release an exact number.

"Our house is still OK, but oh, God, it's not a good feeling,'' said Phil Goldenberg, 53, who was at an evacuation shelter at Canoga Park High School with his wife and son.

Late Wednesday night, bright red flames 10 to 15 feet high stretched several miles across much of the western edge of the valley.

"It's pretty hard to deal with when it's dry brush and dry fuel. There's not a lot you can do to stop it,'' said Paul Shakstad of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Fire officials confirmed that one home had been destroyed, although two structures that appeared to be homes could be seen burning in a news broadcast.

Past wildfires fanned by Santa Ana winds have roared south to Malibu, the celebrity-packed community about 10 miles away, and that's one of the biggest fears firefighters have with this blaze, Los Angeles County Fire Capt. Mark Savage said.

Authorities planned an all-out assault against the fire at daybreak using water dropping helicopters and tanker planes, he said. No evacuations were reported at Malibu.

More than 700 firefighters were on the scene, fire spokesman Ron Haralson said earlier. One firefighter was struck on the head by a 40-pound boulder and was taken to a hospital, officials said.

The fire was only 5 percent contained early Thursday, authorities said.

A blaze in Riverside County, meanwhile, spread over 1,330 acres between the cities of Redlands and Moreno Valley, about 70 miles east of Los Angeles. That fire destroyed three chicken coops at a ranch believed to have housed 70,000 to 90,000 chickens.

So far this year, wildfires have charred 8.16 million acres nationwide, compared with 7.74 million acres at the same time last year, according to the National Interagency Fire Center.

Lawyer: Life is valuable to God

What a contrast David Gibbs (bless him!) is with the 'Death Attorney' George Felos who 'heard voices that told him to kill' sick people - according to his own book!  I don't want to soil my mind with reading his book..  Many serial killers and criminally 'insane' people hear voices that tell them to do something directly against one of the Ten Commandments..  You know who's voice is telling them..and he ain't no Holy Angel from God either !  ~~ deexxoo

Lawyer: Life is valuable to God
Schiavo family attorney visits Marcus Pointe Baptist Church

David Gibbs III, attorney for the Schiavo family, discusses his role in the case of Terri Schiavo at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church Sunday morning.
KarenaCawthon@PensacolaNewsJournal.com

Terri Schiavo's lips and tongue were cracked and dry, lacking the natural gloss that saliva creates in the mouth.

Her face was skeletal. Her skin was blotchy, parched and peeling.

David Gibbs III, the lead attorney for the Schiavo family, gave his account at the Sunday service at Marcus Pointe Baptist Church of the 41-year-old woman's last days.

The Christian Law Association attorney shared details privy only to those who were in the room of the severely brain-damaged woman before she died from dehydration on March 31. Schiavo's feeding tube had been disconnected earlier despite efforts by President Bush, her parents and some state and national lawmakers to keep her alive.

Senior Pastor Gordon Godfrey said he invited Gibbs, an old friend, to speak because he didn't want Schiavo's story to fade. Christians throughout the nation have used the controversial battle that went to the White House, Congress and the U.S. Supreme Court as a symbol of the fight for the right to life.

"We believe in the right to life," Godfrey said. "This brings it to the forefront again in our community and reminds people how valuable a life is to God."

Terri Schiavo's story unfolded more than 15 years.

She suffered brain damage in 1990 after a chemical imbalance caused her heart to stop. She had left no written instructions in the event she became incapacitated.

Michael Schiavo claimed his wife had said she would not want to be kept alive artificially. Her parents, Mary and Bob Schindler, disagreed and held out hope for a miracle recovery for their daughter, who, they said, still struggled to talk.

Gibbs told the Marcus Pointe congregation that Schiavo was as alive as "anyone sitting in this room." Schiavo showed affection toward her mother and even turned away when her father gave her a hug because "she didn't want his mustache to tickle her," Gibbs said.

"The only life support she had was food and water," said the St. Petersburg attorney. "That was taken away from her. We have to start valuing people like Terri again."

Gibbs' message meant a lot to church member Dondie Roper, whose 11-year-old daughter, Tiffany, is a special-needs child with a seizure disorder. When Tiffany Roper was 5, continuous seizures caused her to briefly be in a vegetative state.

"(Gibbs) made it real. You heard a lot about it from different angles, but he was at the heart of it," said Roper, 39.

"It really hit home for me. You're supposed to fight for those who can't fight for themselves. How do you say, 'Sorry, you're not worth fighting for?' "

Mysterious 'Ball Of Fire' Seen In Fla. Skies

POSTED: 7:23 am EDT September 21, 2005
UPDATED: 1:26 pm EDT September 21, 2005

Dozens of people from Jacksonville to Ft. Pierce flooded the U.S. Coast Guard late Tuesday with calls about a mysterious ball of fire seen flying in the sky, according to a Local 6 News report.

Callers flooded the newsroom of Local 6 News partner Florida Today after they saw the object over the Space Coast Tuesday night.

"Starting at about 7:30 last night, we started receiving calls here in the newsroom," Florida Today online news editor Dave Larimer said. "In fact, the Coast Guard station in Port Canaveral got more than two dozen reports of people seeing a bright light in the sky over the ocean."

From Fort Pierce to about five miles south of Jacksonville, reports came in to Coast Guard offices starting about 7:30 p.m., said Dan Yates, a Coast Guard petty officer in Port Canaveral.

Yates said one caller who was walking his dog near the Sebastian Inlet described the object as "huge, like a giant fireball."

Yates said callers to the Coast Guard station thought a boater might have been in trouble. "A lot of people thought it might have been a flare that might have gone up," Yates said of other callers.

"One person thought this fire ball went into the ocean," Larimer said. "The Coast Guard said it probably didn't and it was just his perspective. We know it was not a rocket launch and we know the Air Force was not doing anything."

Experts said it could be a piece of space junk or a large meteor burning up in the atmosphere.

The Coast Guard base near Jacksonville also received calls.

Babs Angel, a public affairs spokeswoman for Patrick Air Force Base, said no local military activity was taking place Tuesday night.

Michael Schiavo speaks at local medical ethics conference

In his first public comments since his wife's death, Michael Schiavo said today that ''I never, in my entire life, thought I would be thrown into such a national debate.... All I wanted to do was carry out my wife's wishes.''
Schiavo spoke at a conference in Minneapolis on medical ethics as several dozen protesters marched outside the Hyatt Regency Hotel where the conference was being held.
Wiping away tears, Schiavo described his last moments with his wife, Terri, who died in March after a dramatic court battle to remove her feeding tube.
''Terri didn't die an awful death,'' he said. As she died, ''I laid a red rose in her hand and said goodbye.''
Schiavo, in recounting his 15-year ordeal, said he refused for years to believe his wife was in a permanent vegetative state after she suffered brain damage when her heart stopped in 1990.
When doctors told him in that first year that she would never recover, he said, ''I told them they were wrong. I was going to bring my wife home and we were going to get on with our lives.'' It was only after years of futile effort to revive her that he decided to end her treatment. He said that's what she would have wanted.
Schiavo came to the Twin Cities to speak at a conference honoring Dr. Ronald Cranford, a Minneapolis neurologist who was a medical advisor to him during Terri Schiavo's case.
''I just wanted to thank Dr. Cranford for your help. You gave me a lot of encouragement. You gave me the power to be the person I am right now.'' His address was met by a standing ovation from the more than 200 people in attendance.

"-nobody can explain what is happening..."

As I said, I have BAD feelings about this storm.  deexxoo

Excerpt: ~~

....there is no "warm water" theory that explains the sudden and exponential-type growth of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. It may be possible these storms are coupling with solar energy output (flares) from the Sun - nobody can explain what is happening. We know very little about this planet's weather patterns and storm behavior but this is definitely new business. ~~

Email forwarded from Dr. Stephen A. Rhinehart:

We are 400+ miles North of Rita right now (North Florida) and the winds are gusting to 20 knots tonight with rain bands already heading West to Texas. I have been thru Hurricanes since 1950s but  have never seen weather patterns like this one - this storm is going to be Huge. I expect all remaining gasoline available will be shipped to Texas starting tomorrow - we had a large tanker come into port (Panama City, FL) this weekend to unload refined gasoline. The coastline of Texas will be changed forever after this storm hits.

I sense this storm will destroy our remaining oil and gas production/refining facilities in the Western Gulf - we are facing 500+ billion in damages from Rita and probably many large insurance companies going bankrupt in US as well as utilities defaulting on bonds (such as Entergy in LA and MISS) - causing coming major problems in Bond Markets and ETFs. This may well be the tipping point when the magnitude of the damage from Katrina/Rita is realized by Congress and the world in coming months. We are about to lose 30% of our refining capacity and hundreds of large petro-chemical plants (i.e., many near the water). In 70+ hours our lives (and those worldwide) may change forever as regards energy consumption and costs of food and this is just the beginning of events.

The impact of these two Hurricanes (Katrina/Rita) is going to cause "Generational Changes" in our life styles and we need to come together as a people of God to help each other. The US Government is going to run out of resources with the magnitude of these events - do not depend on FEMA or other Agencies to help you in an Emergency. Have an evacuation plan (cellphone numbers and back-up contact points) and carry canned/dried food - try and keep gas tanks full if storm approaches (not lower than 1/2 tank before refilling). We cannot restore 80 years of oil & gas infrastructure by throwing money at the problem - it will take 15+ years to build new refineries. We must take responsibility for our lives and loved ones - be prepared for coming price shocks in commodities and possible start of economic chaos (this is the End Times). I have been involved (for over 30+ years) with modeling vortex flows from large storms and there is no "warm water" theory that explains the sudden and exponential-type growth of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. It maybe possible these storms are coupling with solar energy output (flares) from the Sun - nobody can explain what is happening. We know very little about this planet's weather patterns and storm behavior but this is definitely new business.

Please pray the Rosary for all those in the path of Hurricane Rita.
Peace,
Stephen

Hurricane Ophelia pummels N.C. coast

Hurricane Ophelia pummels North Carolina coast

By Gene Cherry 7 minutes ago

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Reuters) - Hurricane Ophelia pummeled the North Carolina coast with heavy rains and gusting winds on Wednesday in a slow-moving assault that was expected to last for two days and trigger dangerous flooding.

Ophelia's center was 40 miles east of Wilmington, North Carolina, at 5 p.m. The storm brushed the state's southeastern coast on Wednesday and was expected to hit Cape Lookout on Thursday and then move over the Outer Banks, the chain of islands along its northern coast.

Schools, seaports, ferries and businesses were closed and shelters opened along the North Carolina coast. More than 78,000 customers had lost electricity.

Squalls strafed the coastline and kicked up battering waves that gnawed at beaches and washed over roads as Ophelia crept along, parallel to the coast at about 7 mph (11 kph).

Ophelia had top sustained winds of 85 mph (136 kph) and could strengthen slightly, the forecasters said. Storms of Ophelia's magnitude can flood coastal areas and fell trees and power lines but rarely cause structural damage.

"Suffice to say the eastern part of North Carolina is going to get pounded with the heavy rain and strong winds," said

National Weather Service meteorologist Ron Steve in Wilmington.

It was the first hurricane to hit the United States since the much more powerful Katrina killed hundreds in the U.S. Gulf Coast and displaced 1 million people two weeks ago.

North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley warned that the longer Ophelia was over the state, the more rain would fall and the more seawater would pile up and crash ashore as storm surge.

Forecasters at the U.S.

National Hurricane Center said Ophelia could dump up to 15 inches of rain on parts of North Carolina and send an 11-foot (3-meter) storm surge over the coast and up into the rivers.

Mandatory evacuation was ordered for islands, beach towns and flood-prone areas in parts of six coastal North Carolina counties and voluntary evacuation was urged for parts of nine others.

WORSE THAN ANTICIPATED

Easley urged people to heed the evacuation orders where they could still travel safely, especially if they lived in areas flooded by faster-moving storms in previous years.

"These floods are going to be worse than anticipated yesterday," Easley said. "Once the high winds come, we cannot get in and get you out -- cannot get you by boat, cannot get you by helicopters, cannot get there by plane."

A hurricane warning was in effect for the entire North Carolina coast, alerting residents to expect hurricane conditions within 24 hours. More than 700,000 people lived in the warning area, the U.S.

Census Bureau said.

In some areas, buffeting winds forced authorities to close high-rise bridges linking islands with the mainland. In North Carolina's southernmost county, Brunswick, a foot of rain had fallen, and toppled trees made roads impassable in places.

Ophelia had sat nearly stationary off the coast for days, making it difficult to predict its eventual target.

"We didn't know whether to call for a voluntary evacuation or a mandatory so we called for a voluntary," said Mayor Betty Medlin of Kure Beach, south of Wilmington. "The way it's getting here today we probably should have had a mandatory."

Most of the town's 2,500 residents stayed put and the town hall was powered by generators after electrical power went out. Tides were 8 feet above normal and wind gusts were near hurricane force.

"It's just sitting there, which makes the wind beat us and be on us longer," Medlin said.

But she added later, "This is a baby compared to some we've had."

IT'S GLOBAL WARNING, NOT GLOBAL WARMING

Subject: IT'S GLOBAL WARNING, NOT GLOBAL WARMING

If you're looking for a message, here is a message:
Preserve the integrity of the Land of Israel. Do not place Jews in harms way. Do not make Jews vulnerable again to terror. Besides the great city of New Orleans, can you name the twenty five or so other towns along the Gulf coast that were virtually wiped out, washed away, left with mostly foundations but little else standing?

While New Orleans got most of the attention, the vast majority of small hamlets that were washed away received virtually no media attention.
Researching the message boards and noting survivor(refugee) reports, I came up with these 24 names. Spellings are based on message board spellings. They may or may not be spelled correctly.

25 cities and towns devastated - one for each of the 25 Jewish towns (21 in Gaza, 4 from northern Samaria) wiped off the face of the map for  the crime of being Jewish. Had they converted to Islam, they would have been permitted to remain. The correlation is uncanny. This, too, cannot be ignored, at least by those who are impressed by such things.

I shall list them for you:

New Orleans, LA
Marrero, LA
Harvey, LA
Terrytown, LA
Gretna, LA
Slidell, LA
Gulfport, LA
Lacombe, LA
Hammond, LA
Buras, LA
Pas Christian, LA
Mandeville, LA
Covington, LA
Ocean Springs, LA
Diamondhead, LA
Jefferson Parish
St. Bernard Parish
Pluquense Parish
Biloxi, MS
Waveland, MS
Bay St. Louis, MS
Diberville, MS
Vancleau, MS
Gulf Shore, AL
Mobile Bay, AL

We all pray for the survivors that they have a complete and speedy healing. You didn't deserve this suffering. Our hearts go out to you.

Now it has been proclaimed of late that Katrina was a message from above, in fulfillment of the statement from Genesis, "I shall bless those that bless thee and curse those that curse thee."  No sooner were the bulldozers sweeping away the last traces of Jewish life in Gaza, but Katrina was
shifting course and heading straight for the Gulf Coast, now a Category 5 hurricane.

It had been predicted for decades, but why NOW of all times?

If you're looking for a message, here is a message:

Preserve the integrity of the Land of Israel. Do not place Jews in harms way. Do not make Jews vulnerable again to terror. Do not embolden terrorists, who see the surrender as proof of their success and guarantee many more years of terror. Do not grant victory to Israel's enemies. Do not make Israel
vulnerable to enemies who wish to eradicate her. Yes. Eradicate. Do not reward terror.

850,000 American internal refugees for 8,500 Jews made refugees inside their land. Biblical proportions. One hundredfold. Soldiers and police forcibly removing men, women and children from their homes against their will. 25 American towns for 25 Jewish towns. If you believe in coincidences, hang up now.

Midah keneged midah. Measure for measure.

The world, America at least has now gotten fair warning from He that created the sea, the sand and those who once lived there.

It makes you think.

Seventh Major Atlantic becomes Unpredictable Hurricane Threat

Ophelia becomes new Atlantic hurricane

1 hour, 12 minutes ago

MIAMI (AFP) - The seventh major Atlantic storm of the season turned into a hurricane and remained an unpredictable threat to the United States as it battles with the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

National Hurricane Center said Ophelia was just 110 kilometers (70 miles) from the Florida coast but was barely moving.

It said a "slow northeastward motion may occur" over the next 24 hours and warned that tropical storm conditions could hit Florida's Atlantic coast.

The storm currently has sustained winds of 120 kilometers (75 miles) an hour making Ophelia a category one storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale which goes up to five.

The US Gulf Coast was ravaged last week by Katrina, a category four storm when it hit land, which has left thousands feared dead and tens of billions of dollars of damage.

Seven Forest Fires.. heat returns in Portugal

Portuguese firefighters battle seven forest fires as heat returns

Sun Sep 4, 5:11 PM ET

Firefighters in Portugal battled seven forest fires in the centre and north of the drought-hit country following the return of scorching temperatures, the civil protection agency said.

Nearly 1,500 firefighters backed by 381 vehicles and 28 water-dropping aircraft were involved in the firefighting operation in Portugal, which is facing its worst drought since 1945, the agency said in a statement.

The blazes were raging in four of mainland Portugal's 18 administrative districts -- Braganca, Porto, Santarem and Viseu -- after temperatures soared above 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) across most of the country.

Firefighters said the fires, which were fanned by strong winds, rose in number throughout the day as the mercury rose.

The national weather office predicts temperatures will cool Monday, with light rain forecast for the fire-ravaged centre and north of the country the following day.

Three of Portugal's 18 districts face a "maximum" risk, and another three a "very high" risk, of wildfires on Sunday, according to a daily risk assessment issued by the Forest Fire Prevention Agency.

The wildfire risk scale has five scales: maximum, very high, high, moderate and reduced.

A wildfire forced the closure of a stretch of highway near the central town of Fatima for several hours on Sunday due to the threat from the encroaching flames and thick smoke, police said.

Eight firefighters were hurt on Saturday while battling blazes.

Three firefighters were injured, one with burns to about half his body, after they became surrounded by flames while fighting a fire near the central town of Lousa, local officials said.

Another five firefighters were injured when their vehicle overturned late Saturday while on their way to a blaze near the central town of Pombal and a fire truck was charred near the central town of Castelo Branco.

The blazes this year have killed at least 15 people, most of them firefighters, and blackened nearly 240,000 hectares (600,000 acres) of land so far this year.

Two years ago more than 20 people were killed and 425,000 hectares of forest and scrubland destroyed.

Christian Energy Healing group...Founder of group....IMPORTANT NEWS
Good Morning from the woods of Buckatunna, Mississippi, USA

I am Kathy's sister, Stephanie....Kathy's heart and soul created this
egroup and through many busy seasons Mike stepped in and has become
the groups "father" so to speak. Many thanks for all of his devotion
to the group.

Hurricane Katrina has destroyed the Gulf Coast from Mobile, Alabama to
New Orleans, Louisiana. My wonderful sister lived in Gulfport,
Mississippi one block off of the beach (the Gulf of Mexico). Her and
her husband, Wayne, have lost their home plus automobiles plus three
other real estate properties that they owned on the same street.
Completely devastated :o(

Rachel, their daughter, who lived across the street from them also has
lost her home...totally devastated..only thing left is the front steps.

Kathy and Wayne decided several years ago to buy an RV and travel the
USA but one thing or another stopped their plans....the birth of their
grandchild, Braydon....then they decided this year to sell the home
and everything else and buy a 35 foot Airstream to travel around the
USA in. This decision was just made and the RV purchased around the
middle of August.

Kathy and Wayne NEVER leave for a hurricane. It is something we have
all grown up with and adjust to how strong the storm will be...Having
said that, they still never left for a storm.

God's saving grace has kept them alive! If it were not for them buying
the RV last month and having to evacuate the RV to safer ground they
would have stayed in their home and they would be dead today...

BUT they didn't stay..they were driving their RV to safer ground to
live on....Little did they know that by saving the RV that they saved
their own lives!!

The Holy Spirit works in ways that we cannot explain and leaves us
numb at times wondering about the "when, why, and where" of things in
this life.

Kathy and Wayne know that everything that has happened is all part of
their journey and they are right where they are supposed to be. They
will no doubt travel in and out of the devastated area to transport
supplies and minister to people in anyway they can as well as continue
their travels around the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

I just feel that how everything occurred in their lives over the past
several weeks was the Holy Spirit preparing them for their departure
from that home in Gulfport at the precise time that He had planned.

Rachel and Braydon, the grandchild, left their home and went to back
bay Biloxi, Mississippi to stay. The water rose and flooded most of
the homes around them. The water came within 2 feet of the home they
were staying in. Everyone is fine. Her husband is an airline pilot and
he was at work during the storm.

Kathy and Wayne have transported Rachel and Braydon to a location in
North Mississippi where Rachel will be living. Kathy and Wayne will
probably travel to Missouri soon to visit with a long time friend and
start their healing process from what has happened.

I wanted Mike and all the members to know what has happened and how
everyone is and to ask for you to please start a prayer chain for all
the victims that have been left hurt, homeless, alone and penniless.

I am fine. We suffered loss of probably a hundred trees, damage to the
barn and roof leak. We got electricity cut back on as of yesterday. I
thank God for his protection and cherish what He has blessed me with
in my life.

Blessings to you for this day,
Thomas & Stephanie

A way for disconnected hurricane victims to communicate

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Subject: A way for disconnected hurricane victims to communicate

Air America Public Voicemail
1-866-217-6255

Air America Radio's Public Voicemail is a way for disconnected people
to communicate in the wake of Katrina.

Here's how it works:

Call the toll-free number above, enter your everyday phone number, and
then record a message. Other people who know your everyday phone
number (even if it doesn't work anymore) can call Emergency Voicemail,
enter the phone number they associate with you, and hear your message.

You can also search for messages left by people whose phone numbers
you know.

Air America Radio will leave Public Voicemail in service for as long
as this crisis continues. You can call it whenever you are trying to
locate someone, or if you are trying to be found.

Obviously, for this to work, people need to know about it so please
forward the number to as many people as you can. You can find out more
about Katrina and the affected areas at
www.airamericaradio.com

Air America Radio brings you Emergency VoiceMail in conjunction with
VoodooVox.

Also, if you're looking for a way to help personally, MoveOn.org Civic
Action, formerly known as MoveOn.org, launched a new web site
yesterday,
http://hurricanehousing.org/ asking its 3.3 million members
and the public to post any available housing for the thousands of
people left homeless by Hurricane Katrina. The organization will
directly connect evacuees with volunteer hosts, and also provide the
housing information to the Red Cross and Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA).

Sorcha Faal + Mel Gibson + David Booth + ????????????

Thanks, Larry!
Very interesting viewpoint.  Quite often I have noticed that some seemingly outrageous 'prediction' or observation of 'hers' is later borne out to be true!

And like you said, the news of it, when finally seen is well hidden in small articles somewhere, afterwards.
Deexxoo

Sorcha Faal seems to be such an
ENIGMA in today's world. Some have
referred to her as 'Toyko Rose'
anew! There are reports that she
is connected with David Booth and
Mel Gibson. I am sure that Sorcha
Faal has her own agenda, however;
much of her writings have some
very interesting TRUTH dropped in
the midst, if you can DISCERN it.

I had a phone conversation with
Zeph Daniel a few days ago about
Sorcha's writings and he made a
very interesting comment that her
writings seem to read like a CODE
of some sort. Some things she
writes seems so blown out of
proportion, however; later, this
appears to happen but is mostly
hidden in small news articles that
most never see. Seems like she is
receiving INTEL from a source that
is linked to what's soon to happen
and writes Intel of coming activity
that someone knowing her writing
CODE will know what she's really
saying! Not prophecy, but an
Intelligence prediction......!

Sorcha Faal is an ENIGMA, so if you
read her articles --- DISCERN them
as such and maybe see what the
article points at and not so much
as what is said?

Oh the Blame Game..the wasteful finger pointing

Give me a break.  Like the finger pointers are the only perfect people on this planet.

Those doing the raping are responsible for doing the raping.   Those doing the shooting are responsible for doing the shooting. Those doing the looting are responsible for doing the looting.  Those murdering are murderers. Those desperate drug addicts are desperate drug addicts.  Those rescuing are rescuing, even if they are later than sooner in doing it and should be appreciated.  Those helping one another are wonderful, good people whether they are black or white, rich or poor, private citizens, or public officials.  And there are more good people helping one another than not.

The heroes are the quiet ones, they're too busy making things right.

Those blaming anybody and everybody, complaining about inevitable government and human imperfections are wasting theirs and everyone else's valuable time and energy, making things much, much worse, being irresponsible themselves.Talk is cheap.  Grow up, whiners, complainers, finger pointers!  Stop expecting and demanding the government to be your perfect babysitter, to be peopled with perfect, competent saints, and pull up yourself and your  neighbors by your own bootstraps, by your immediate help, by your constructive comments!  Shut up and get busy.

The following  is Cyndi's excellent and insightful opinion:
------------------------

Sherri,
What a well written letter. I commend your common sense.  I too am a bit outraged that this is being blamed on Bush and the "white America"....when it was the Mayor and Governor  LA that did not appropriately evacuate.  They are the nin-com-poops that put a ton of people in the SuperDome knowing it was in the path.  They are the ones that only kept 3 lanes open to get out of LA. (Instead of making a fourth lane in the grassy median and utilizing the incoming highway as an also outgoing highway.)  They are the ones that didn't ask folks to please grab a family and take them with you if you have room in your cars.  They are the ones that did not bus folks out on school buses, etc. NOT BUSH.

New Orleans has had the highest rated murder crime rate in the country the past few years. This was not due to Bush....or the hurricane.  I can understand looting for food....but rape?  What the heck does RAPE have to do with being hungry, tired, and feeling abandonded? Shootings at emergency helpers? PLEASE. Attacking the police to the point that 2/3d's realized their own lives and safety were at risk when they were only trying to keep civility that they left.  Can one blame them? Job, or not, who wants to be shot at randomnly by thug gangs?  They are human beings too.  Black and white with families and children to care for and they also lost their homes.  When you know the police were leaving the scene.....that's when one should have realized that this has become a war zone and not an agenda for politics.

I also want to say to all these black news reporters that are blaming this on racism that they are so full of prejudice that it makes me want to puke.  Who do they think is contributing to the donations of Hurricane Katrina? Only blacks? Who are the workers that I see passing out food and water at the Superdome when it did arrive?

YES....I agree it was very poorly and stupidly planned...and I don't know if that was primarily the Gov and Mayor of New Orleans and LA....or FEMA....and I don't blame the folks one iota for being upset over the ridiculous stalling of help....HOWEVER, help would have been much more abundant and plenty had there not been gangs of thugs turning it into a damn war zone.  Why aren't THEY getting blamed?  It's been said that every single toilet, stall, mirror and bathroom in the Superdome has been trashed and busted and ripped from the walls.  Do you really think that was because people were hungry? No.  It's because there are unfortunately some very criminal minds in this country who don't give a flying hoot about their neighbor and furthermore not care one iota of the life and heart beating next to them whether its a black person or a white person....THAT is very sad. THAT is what the problem is and was..........not a black/white issue.

It's easier to blame this on race, and the President, and that makes me quite sad.  Do they really think Bush gathered his crew, especially knowing Condoleeza Rice...practically more of a role as VP than Cheney....and who is black, and said..."lets stall this so we can lose some black people?"  Gimme a break.   I will never believe that slandering of prejudice no matter who our President.  This was a horrible tragedy and the aftermath horrendous.

Instead of making this a black / white issue and placing blame....how about doing something constructive in the media like connecting families lost from another, and organizing homes in the USA available to take in other families..and start approaching corporations, movies stars, and atheletes, who could each agree to sponser the cost of flights to get families in need to other families whose doors are open in the USA....and quite using tragedies to further political and biased agenda's.

Just my opinion.

Take care, Cyndi
