    The Daily Brief

    Thursday, July 27, 2006

Let God Arise; Let His enemies be scattered. Let also those who hate Him flee before Him. (Psalms 68:1)

The approximately 20-page book has been dated to the years 800-1000. Trinity College manuscripts expert Bernard Meehan said it was the first discovery of an Irish early medieval document in two centuries."This is really a miracle find," said Pat Wallace, director of the National Museum of Ireland, which has the book stored in refrigeration.
"There's two sets of odds that make this discovery really way out," Wallace said. "First of all, it's unlikely that something this fragile could survive buried in a bog at all, and then for it to be unearthed and spotted before it was destroyed is incalculably more amazing. "An engineer, digging up bogland last week in Ireland's midlands, spotted the manuscript." Wallace would not specify where the book was found because a team of archaeologists is still exploring the site. Crucially, he said, the bog owner covered up the book with damp soil. Had it been left exposed overnight, he said, "it could have dried out and just vanished, blown away."
The book was found open to a page describing, in Latin script, Psalm 83, in which God hears complaints of how Arab and Middle Eastern powers form a covenant against the God of Israel and the nation of Israel to wipe out the name of Israel. Wallace said several experts spent Tuesday analyzing only that page -- the number of letters on each line, lines on each page, size of page -- and the book's binding and cover, which he described as "leather velum, very thick wallet in appearance." Months of study are required just to identify the safest way to pry open the pages without damaging or destroying them. (AP)
? Read and study Psalm 83, preferably with a Biblical dictionary. Pray the words of the Psalmist over the enemies of Israel who now attack God's land. Give thanks to the Lord for His revealing His Word for this hour. Call out for either the repentance or the destruction of terrorists. We also find it of interest that this book will be STUCK OPEN to that page -- and to Psalm 83 -- for several more months, as the archaeologists work to preserve this volume. This IS the decree of the Lord!
? O God, do not keep silent; be not quiet, O God, be not still. See how your enemies are astir, how your foes rear their heads. With cunning they conspire against your people; they plot against those you cherish. "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation, that the name of Israel be remembered no more." . . . Cover their faces with shame so that men will seek your name, O LORD. May they ever be ashamed and dismayed; may they perish in disgrace. Let them know that you, whose name is the LORD- that you alone are the Most High over all the earth. (Psalm 83:1-4; 16-18)

    5. Nasrallah vows to begin firing missiles deeper into Israel - Jerusalem Post

Hizbullah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, looking extremely tired, defiantly vowed Wednesday that his guerrilla fighters would begin firing rockets deeper into Israel, beyond the northern port of Haifa, and said the Jewish state's two-week-long military offensive against Lebanon was linked to a US-Israeli plan for "a new Middle East."

    1. House OKs India Nuclear Package - AP

The House of Representatives has voted overwhelmingly to allow U.S. shipments of civilian nuclear fuel and technology to India, handing President George W. Bush a major victory on one of his top foreign policy initiatives. Congressman Tom Lantos said the proposal, which reverses decades of U.S. anti-proliferation policy, is "a tidal shift in relations between India and the United States."

? Please join us in prayer for Godly leadership and governing for both America and India. ? "He who walks with integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will become known." (Proverbs 10: 9 NKJV)
    2. Washington State Supreme Court Rules on Gay Marriage - AP

The Washington Supreme Court has upheld the state ban on gay marriage. In the 5-4 decision, the court says state lawmakers have the power to restrict marriage to heterosexual couples. The court says the Washington Defense of Marriage Act is constitutional. It defines marriage as the union of one man and one woman. Today's decision leaves Massachusetts as the only state to allow homosexual couples to wed. Forty-five states ban gay marriage.

? God speaks to the unnatural perversion of homosexuality and His call for righteousness in His Word. ? "For this reason, God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due." (Romans 1: 26-27 NKJV)
    3. Drop Reported In Number Of Illegals Caught Trying To Cross Border - AP

"The number of illegal immigrants caught trying to sneak into the United States has dropped since President Bush ordered the military to help tighten the border, the head of the Border Patrol said Tuesday. Officials surmise that part of the reason is that fewer people are even attempting to enter the states because they're discouraged by the ramp-up in efforts against them.

? Praise God for the decrease in illegals entering America! ? "Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; though they join forces, none will go unpunished." ? (Proverbs 16: 5 NKJV)
    4. New Procedure To Help Ensure Innocent Travelers Not Hassled - Washington Times

"Customs and Border Protection officials say they have introduced a new procedure for travelers who have the same name as a suspected terrorist, to help ensure that innocents are not stopped and questioned every time they enter the country merely because of such coincidences.

? God knows our true identies. May we know who we are and Whom we belong to, too! ? "For Jacob My servant's sake, and Israel My elect, I have even called you by your name; I have named you, though you have not known me. I am the Lord, and there is no other; there is no God besides Me. I will gird you, though you have not known Me." (Isaiah 45: 4-5 NKJV)
    5. Colombians To Train Afghans In Fight Against Illegal Drugs - Washington Times

"The chairman of the House International Relations Committee said yesterday that a contingent of Colombian narcotics fighters is due in Afghanistan this week to share its expertise in combating powerful drug lords. 'Two separate groups coming from different environments attacking the same problem are bound to produce some new ideas,' Rep. Henry J. Hyde, Illinois Republican, said in an interview.

? Oh Lord, we pray that the universal darkness of illegal drug trafficking will be brought to light. ? "Happy is the man who finds wisdom, and the man who gains understanding; for her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, and her gain than fine gold." (Proverbs 3: 13 NKJV)
    6. US Urges Moscow to Reconsider Venezuela Arms Deal - VOA

The United States Tuesday again urged the Russian government to reconsider a $1 billion military aircraft sale to Venezuela. U.S. officials say Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez' weapons plans exceed the country's defensive needs.

? Pride comes before a fall. ? "The wicked man does deceptive work, but he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward." (Proverbs 11: 18 NKJV)
A Win in the State of Washington

A Win in the State of Washington

On the heels of marriage victories in New York, Nebraska, Georgia and Connecticut, the Washington State Supreme Court today ruled that a law limiting marriage to one man and one woman is constitutional. The 5-4 ruling overturns the decisions of two lower courts that had declared the Washington Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) unconstitutional. In today?s opinion the court wrote: ?It cannot be overemphasized that our state constitution provides for a representative democracy. . . and that the public consensus, as evidenced by legislation adopted after robust debate, must be given great deference.?
Could it be that judges nationwide, observing how overwhelmingly the public has rejected the idea of men marrying men, are starting to exercise some long-overdue judicial restraint? It?s too early to tell, but we should get a better idea when the New Jersey Supreme Court decides on the constitutionality of that state?s marriage law. The New Jersey court is notoriously liberal, and if homosexual activists win, New Jersey could start issuing marriage licenses to homosexual couples from other states, setting off a flurry of litigation in the federal courts challenging the constitutionality of the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act. Remember, my friends, even though traditional marriage has achieved some victories of late, it only takes one court determined to impose same-sex ?marriage? on its citizens to threaten marriage everywhere.

National Day of Prayer Task Force Calls for Prayer for the Middle East

Colorado Springs, CO - National Day of Prayer Chairwoman Shirley Dobson has issued the following statement:
?As the tragic conflict in the Middle East continues, we at the National Day of Prayer Task Force want to urge Americans to pray, not merely for one more temporary ceasefire that could ultimately prolong the conflict and cost more lives, but for a miraculous settlement that would end the turmoil that has brought suffering and death to so many innocent people. We must pray also that this powder keg in the Middle East will not escalate and lead to greater violence around the world.
?We are calling on all people of faith to take time today and in the coming weeks to pray for the following:

    * Comfort for all who have lost loved ones
    * A unified call from world leaders for an end to terrorism
    * Secure borders for Israel
    * Safety for civilians in battle zones
    * A miracle that exceeds human strategies, which so far has been deficient.
?By uniting in prayer as a nation, we can avail ourselves of the wisdom that only God provides. By petitioning Him for mercy and grace, people everywhere can be a very real and necessary part of the hope and healing. Through prayer, we can call on the power of God Himself.?

?Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: ?May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.?? (Psalm 122:6-7 NIV)
    We additionally seek:

*Divine wisdom for America?s leaders at this time
*Protection of all American military troops and their families
*Protection from the US being pulled into this conflict

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) - An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 struck off Indonesia's Sulawesi island on Sunday, causing residents to flee coastal areas in fear of a tsunami.
Indonesian officials - who have been under fire for failing to warn people ahead of last week's deadly tsunami on Java island - recorded the quake at 6.6 and said it had the potential to trigger destructive waves.
They later said no tsunami was generated and told residents to return home.
The magnitude 6.1 quake struck 67 miles south of Gorontalo in northern Sulawesi, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. It was felt across parts of Sulawesi, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

Fauzi, an official at Indonesia's geological agency, said officials there gave the quake an initial strength of 6.6. Different agencies often give different magnitudes for quakes and revise the figure later after analyzing more seismographical data.
Like many Indonesians, Fauzi uses a single name.
Sgt. Daule, a police officer in the coastal town of Luwuk, said hundreds of people there fled to higher ground after the quake struck, shouting "Beware tsunami! Beware tsunami!"
Just over 1 1/2 hours later, Fauzi said that no tsunami had occurred.
"We are sending a message to the people to go home because the situation is now safe," he said.
Sulawesi is 1,200 miles northeast of the capital, Jakarta.
Last Monday's tsunami was triggered by a 7.7 magnitude quake off Java's southern coast. It pummeled a nearly 200-mile stretch of coastline, killing at least 668 people.
Indonesia is on Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin, and is rocked by earthquakes on a near daily basis.

Etna awakes with storm of fire and lava

Cayce said that when Mt. Etna woke up followed by a corresponding volcanic eruption in the South Seas (or was it vice-versa?) - watch out!

Etna awakes with storm of fire and lava
    By Malcolm Moore, Rome Correspondent
    (Filed: 18/07/2006)
Mount Etna, the largest active volcano in Europe, threw fire and rocks more than 800ft into the air yesterday.
    Mount Etna
Spectacular: The explosions are coming from two holes near to the top of the volcano
Etna, which is almost 11,000ft high, sits 18 miles from Catania on Sicily's east coast. Several villages lie on its lower slopes, but the Italian government said yesterday that the lava was flowing away from them, and that there was no immediate danger.
The explosions are coming from two holes near to the top of the volcano, creating a lava field more than a mile long which is flowing at a rate faster than 90 cubic feet a minute. Even though the eruption has continued for three days, scientists said it had lost little of its force.
Etna is in an almost constant state of activity, but is not considered particularly dangerous and its slopes are home to farms and vineyards that make use of the rich volcanic soil. The last major eruption was in 2002.

From your One and Only God

--- In, Marcela Fillol <marfil@...> wrote:

FW: Hear is one of the loveliest letters I have received lately from a friend

    From: GOD

    To: My Children on Earth

    RE: Religious Rivalries

My Dear Children (and believe me, that's all of you), I consider myself a
pretty patient guy. I mean, look at the Grand Canyon. It took millions of years
to get it right. And about evolution? Boy, nothing is slower than designing that
whole Darwinian thing to take place, cell by cell, and gene by gene.

I've been patient through your fashions, civilizations, wars and schemes, and
the countless ways you take Me for granted until you get yourselves into big
    trouble again and again.

I want to let you know about some of the things that are starting to tick me

First of all your religious rivalries are driving Me up a wall. Enough
already! Let's get one thing straight. These are YOUR religions, not Mine.

I'm the whole enchilada; I'm beyond them all. Every one of your religions
claims there is only one of Me (which by the way, is absolutely true).

But in the very next breath, each religion claims it's My favorite one. And
each claims its bible was written personally by Me, and that all the other
bible's are man-made. Oh, Me. How do I even begin to put a stop to such
    complicated nonsense?

Okay, listen up now. I'm your Father AND Mother, and I don't play favorites
among My children. Also, I hate to break it to you, but I don't write. My
longhand is awful, and I've always been more of a "doer" anyway. So ALL of your
books, including those bible's, were written by men and women. They were
inspired, remarkable people, but they also made mistakes here and there. I made
sure of that, so that you would never trust a written word more than your own
    living heart.

You see, one human being to me -- even a bum on the street -- is worth more
than all the Holy Books in the world. That's just the kind of guy I am. My
Spirit is not a historical thing, it's alive right here, right now, as fresh as
    your next breath.

Holy books and religious rites are sacred and powerful, but not more so than
the least of you. They were only meant to steer you in the right direction, not
to keep you arguing with each other, and certainly not to keep you from trusting
your own personal connection with Me.

Which brings Me to My next point about your nonsense. You act like I need you
and your religions to stick up for Me or "win souls" for My sake. Please, don't
do Me any favors. I can stand quite well on my own, thank you. I don't need you
to defend Me, and I don't need constant credit.

I just want you to be good to each other.

And another thing: I don't get all worked up over money or politics,

so stop dragging My name into your dramas.

The thing is, I want you to stop thinking of religion as some sort of loyalty
pledge to Me. The true purpose of your religions is so that YOU can become more
aware of ME, not the other way around. Believe Me, I know you already. I know
what's in each of your hearts, and I love you with no strings attached. Lighten
up and enjoy Me. That's what religion is best for.

What you seem to forget is how mysterious I am. You look at the petty
differences in your Scriptures and say, "Well, if THIS is the truth, then THAT
can't be!" But instead of trying to figure out My Paradoxes and Unfathomable
Nature--which by the way, you NEVER will--why not open your hearts to the simple
    common threads in all religions.

You know what I'm talking about: Love and respect everyone. Be kind, even when
life is scary or confusing, take courage and be of good cheer, for I am always
with you. Learn how to be quiet, so you can hear My still, small voice (I don't
like to shout). Leave the world a better place by living your life with dignity
and gracefulness, for you are My Own Child. Hold back nothing from life, for the
parts of you that can die surely will, and the parts that can't, won't. So don't
worry, be happy (I stole that last line from Bobby McFerrin, but who do you
think gave it to him in the first place?)

Simple stuff. Why do you keep making it so complicated? It's like you're
always looking for an excuse to be upset. And I'm very tired of being your main
excuse. Do you think I care whether you call me Yahweh, Jehovah, Allah,
Wakantonka, Brahma, Father, Mother or even the Void of Nirvana? Do you think I
care which of My special children you feel closest to--Jesus, Mary, Buddha,
Krishna, Mohammed or any of the others? You can call Me and My Special Ones any
name you choose, if only you would go about My business of loving one another as
I love you. How can you keep neglecting something so simple?

I'm not telling you to abandon your religions. Enjoy your religions, honor
them, learn from them, just as you should enjoy, honor, and learn from your
parents. But do you walk around telling everyone that your parents are better
than theirs? Your religion, like your parents, may always have the most special
place in your heart; I don't mind that at all.

Each religion is unique for a reason. Each has a unique style so that people
can find the best path for themselves.

But My Special Children--the ones that your religions revolve around--all live
in the same place (My heart) and they get along perfectly, I assure you. The
clergy must stop creating a myth of sibling rivalry where there is none.

My blessed children of Earth, the world has grown too small for your pervasive
religious bigotries and confusion. The whole planet is connected by air travel,
satellite dishes, telephones, fax machines, the internet, concerts, diseases,
and mutual needs and concerns. Get with the program! If you really want to help
then commit yourselves to figuring out how to feed your hungry, clothe your
naked, protect your abused, and shelter your poor.

And just as importantly, make your own everyday life a shining example of
kindness and good humor. I've given you all the resources you need,

if only you abandon your fear of each other and begin living, loving, and
    laughing together.

Finally, My Children everywhere, when you think of the life of Jesus and the
fearlessness with which He chose to live and die. As I love Him, so do I love
each one of you. I'm not really ticked off, I just wanted to grab your attention
because I hate to see you suffer.

But I gave you free will. I just want you to be happy.

    Trust in Me.

    Your One and Only,

    Holding you in your highest; honoring you where you are;
and inspiring you to go beyond!

Hottest on Record so for this year..

Scorching U.S.: First Half of 2006 Sets Heat Record

    Sara Goudarzi
    LiveScience Staff Writer
Fri Jul 14, 5:00 PM ET
The average temperatures of the first half of 2006 were the highest ever recorded for the continental United States, scientists announced today.
Temperatures for January through June were 3.4 degrees Fahrenheit above the 20th-century average.
Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and Missouri experienced record warmth for the period, while no state experienced cooler-than-average temperatures, reported scientists from NOAA's National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C. [Heat Map]
Scientists have previously said that 2005 was the warmest year on record for the entire globe.
Last month the United States experienced the second warmest June since weather record keeping began in 1895.
Goldilocks and the Greenhouse What makes Earth habitable? This LiveScience original video explores the science of global warming and explains how, for now, conditions here are just right.
This warming coupled with less than average precipitation caused moderate to extreme droughts in almost 45 percent of the contiguous United States. However, some areas, such as the Northeast of the country experienced record rainfalls and severe floods.
Many experts believe that such weather anomalies are the result of global warming, an average increase in the Earth's atmospheric temperature caused at least in part by human activities.
Other studies reveal consequences of a warmer climate.
According to one study, the amount of land damaged by rising temperature-induced droughts more than doubled in the last 30 years.
Meanwhile, dry conditioned have contributed to more than 50,000 wildfires in the first half of this year, an unusually high number. A study earlier this month suggests climate change has in recent years contributed to more wildfires in the Western United States.
Other studies suggest that warmer oceans and increased moisture could make for stronger hurricanes for many years to come.
