This area has been hit by some mega quakes, the most famous being the series of quakes in 1811-1812 which formed Lake Saint Francis.
Just since 1974 countless tremblors have occurred from barely registering on the scale to at least one with a magnitude of six in the Missouri bootheel area.
Some seismologist say it's only a matter of time before a mega quake hits again.

At the epicenter of a 3.1 earthquake that occurred near Harrison, Ark., on Friday, not many people felt the tremblor, but it was registered as far away as St. Louis, according to the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Hazard Program.
An earthquake in Harrison is so unusual that the police department did not have the number to call to confirm the occurrence, according to Harrison Police Department Captain Joe Gilliam.
"I guess I'll be looking up that number and adding it to our list of emergency numbers," Gilliam said.
Gilliam said two of their officers reported feeling the tremor of the minor earthquake that occurred at 5:40 a.m. about two miles south, southeast of Harrison.
At a 3.1 magnitude the quake, classified as weak, would not be expected to cause any damage. Earthquakes like the one that happened in the Taiwan region on Thursday at 6.5 magnitude could produce considerable damage to structures.
The last time an earthquake occurred in Arkansas was in May of this year, in the same area, but only a 2.4. The northeast section of Arkansas is located in the New Madrid seismic zone, a quake prone area covering both the southeastern portion of Missouri and the northeastern region of Arkansas.
