A magnitude five earthquake struck on Sunday morning with its epicentre near Cleve on Eyre Peninsula. The jolt was felt up to 100 kilometres away. There was a magnitude 3.8 quake recorded near Mount Barker in the Adelaide hills back in April. Seismologist David Jepsen from Geoscience Australia says it is no more than coincidence that SA has had two recent quakes. "The fact that we just had two together is just the law of randomness. We sometimes have nothing for a while and then just get two," he said. "They're not associated in any way but you do regularly have earthquakes of these sort of sizes throughout the year. He says Eyre Peninsula residents are likely to feel more small aftershocks. "We've had periods where people have felt aftershocks or aftershocks are actually observed for many weeks or even months," he said. "Sometimes they disappear in a couple of days, so we can't really tell. "But there's only been one real sizeable aftershock that was magnitude 2.5, four hours after the event."
