Benfield is the third largest re-insurance company in the world. It has been requested by the insurance companies to scientifically investigate probabilities of natural disasters and the areas at risk because the insurance companies do not want to lose money. They don't want to take any risks. They don't want to pay claims of huge sums of money unless they know where to charge the huge sums of premiums in the first place. So they still make a profit.
