IN MY OPINION

Memories of these storms last forever

aveciana@herald.com

Sometimes I can still hear the wind. The sound of a hurricane barreling through a house is like no other. A howl. A bang. A rip. An infernally long shriek.

Thirteen years after Hurricane Andrew I cannot forget.

I know the Gulf Coast victims of Hurricane Katrina won't, either. News and video of the cataclysmic devastation is heart-wrenching, and for me, of special interest, not only as a survivor of a Category 5 but also because my best friend from childhood -- the girl who shared my first make-up, my first confessions, my first disappointments -- lives on the outskirts of New Orleans.

Hours before Katrina swept through the area, we spoke about the impending catastrophe through the marvels of cell phones. We in Miami had experienced Katrina as a Category 1, and that was scary and vicious enough. What more would the storm do now that her force had multiplied? The possibilities cast a long shadow over our late-night communication.

My friend described a tearful car trip north with children and pets, knowing that in all likelihood her home, or at the very least what she knew of it, wouldn't be there when she returned.

She was right, unfortunately so.

Katrina battered 540 miles of coastline across four states, as Alabama and Mississippi recorded wind blasts in the triple digits. Buildings imploded, boats were hurled inland, windows were smashed, whole neighborhoods flooded. As of this writing, the death count was still mounting.

Even without the benefit of photographs, I can close my eyes and see it all. Again. The wrath of nature leaves a permanent imprint like nothing else. Just ask the survivors of the tsunami. Or an earthquake. Or any volcanic eruption.

The worst is over, one newspaper blogger reported after the winds had subsided. Poor fool, I thought when I read that statement. The worst comes in many guises. It will be days before we know the real extent of the damage. Weeks before these pummeled cities pump out the water. Then months for the clean-up. And, finally, years for the rebuilding.

I dare not give a time for the scars to heal. They are too many, too varied, perhaps too deep, to invite predictions.

As millions of people try to cobble their lives back together, modern lives eased by electricity, refrigeration and satellite communications, they will nevertheless experience an ancient feeling, a very human emotion that no generation has managed to escape despite technological advances. It will be one of awe and fear.

When they survey the landscape of shattered glass, broken trees, and flattened buildings, they will marvel, with a horrific shudder, at the absolute majesty and power of something that we, for all our knowledge, have not quite managed to tame. They will stare open-mouthed and wide-eyed, as I once did, at how a few hours -- sometimes minutes -- can so alter years and years of building.

They will feel puny. They will feel violated. They will feel insignificant. They will recognize that there is something so much bigger than they are, and it chooses to remind us of this vulnerability always so inopportunely. It is a humbling experience.

But those feelings will also be tempered with gratitude. Yes, believe it or not, thankfulness. There is a cleansing that comes from such catastrophe, a readjustment of priorities and thought, of visions reassessed. Sooner or later, the beleaguered residents of the Gulf Coast will admonish themselves for having wasted time and worry on things that, in the end, did not matter.

If there is a ray of hope I can give my friend in this dark, dismal hour, surely it would be that nugget of knowledge.

A First-Hand Account of the Anarchy and Chaos in New Orleans

Thank you for this, Janis.

A vivid FIRST HAND ACCOUNT of the glorious
Proletarian Looting and Anarchy in New Orleansauthor: A repost from
Michael, a Survivor        e-mail: 9876543210@mail.yahoo.com Calling
All Anarchists...you are immediately called upon to depart by hook or
by crook to The Big Uneasy if the words from your well fed Caucasian
mouths are anything but the idlest of chatter. Me, I'm donating money
to the big, bad US GOVERNMENT to help these terribly unfortunate
people... I am alive, arguably tougher than any of you all...

I got out today, Sept. 1st, from the worst of all possible worlds. If
any of you that don't know me personally saw the tattooed freak on
CNN
days ago, that was me.

Yes, I rode out the storm, that was the easy part. The hard part was
living through the hell that New Orleans became after the fact. MAKE
NO MISTAKE, WHAT THE NEWS IS TELLING YOU IS NOT EVEN
CLOSE TO THE
RAMPANT ANARCHY AND CHAOS THAT IS AND WAS NEW
ORLEANS.

Some reasons why:

Roving packs of weapon weilding marauders killing and looting
everything in sight. No power, making the French Quarter wonderful for
the first night, a TOTAL NIGHTMARE the next. Destruction on a level
only rivalled by Iraq, SERIOUSLY. Corpses floating in most parts of
the city. The heat, good lord, the heat... Police essentially forming
gangs of their own, sleepless and out of control. The military having
turf wars in every parish, leaving yet more corpses and scaring the
shit out of everyone. Crazed militia-type behavior from people that
you always knew were on the verge, turning them into assholes too
ready to kill than help their fellow man. The stench of organic rot
and the imminent threat of diseases long thought extinct. And many
more things I can't bear to tell you all right now for fear of giving
you all the cold sweats, I mean it.

Imagine "Apocalypse Now", mix in a generous portion of "28 Days
Later", it doesn't even come close. This is something that you will
never undestand unless you were there. I am in serious shock, yet
somehow calm in the knowledge that I LIVED THROUGH IT.

Yeah, I didn't even know I was that crazy... But I'm not stupid, so I
am in Lafayette for a couple of days in sanctuary, then possibly to
Texass, who knows....

I kept a storm journal, the results of which will be posted as soon as
I have enough p.c. time and the stomach to relive it that long.

Whatever you do, DO NOT GO THERE UNTIL IT IS UNIVERSALLY
AGREED THAT
IT IS SAFE.

Death rules that place and all that dared to stay any longer...

I am deeply and sincerely touched by the communication I have
received
as a result of my descent into madness, much love to you all...

After Mid-August -- No More Business as Usual

Did I not say that I was expecting something big to happen around mid-August?  Some change, some big shift?

I knew it inwardly, I felt it intensely.. many others did too...  Who has been listening to us?  Who has been willing to hear, to see?

~~Excerpt:
On the 17th of August under intense and relentless pressure from the United States, the U.N., the E.U., Israel began to forcibly removal of 8-9,000 Jewish people from their homes, business, schools, synagogues, and land in Gaza. Overnight, 8-9,000 Jewish people became "homeless and jobless refugees." Israelis were forcibly removed from their homes and loaded on to buses leaving everything they knew and loved behind. The following days the "homeless and jobless," Israeli refugees watched on television as their homes, business, schools, and synagogues were all obliterated before their eyes. This very day some of our friends are in Gaza removing the remains of the dead, to have them interred elsewhere inside Israel. All of these acts were carried out by men, yet what was about to happen to America would be solely by the hand of God!

Within a week we all watched as our television screens displayed vivid pictures of a monster category 5 hurricane named Katrina looming off the coast of Louisiana. We were all about to experience the consequences to America for having come against the God of Israel, against His covenant with His people to remove them from their inheritance.

For the first time many Americans were about to experience up close and personal that it is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of the living God, and He is a consuming fire to those who touch the apple of His eye. Americans watched in horror as the entire city of New Orleans was ordered evacuated! People fled for their lives as the levies were breached and their homes, their schools, their businesses, their churches, and synagogues were all consumed by the rising waters. The largest evacuation in U.S. history is now underway. Hundreds of thousands of people have lost everything. Just like in Gaza, thousands are being loaded on to buses and taken to places as homeless refugees. At this writing there are more than 500,000 "homeless and jobless," Americans. In New Orleans even the dead have come up out of their graves to float among the dead in the streets of New Orleans. As this is being written there are those who slept in their graves in Gaza that have been exhumed and removed to be re-buried elsewhere in Israel.

NO MORE BUSINESS AS USUAL

www.voicefromzion.org
The night before Katrina hit the Gulf Coast the Lord awakened me and I went to my favorite chair to seek His face and pray about the impending disaster. As I began to intercede before the Lord, the Holy Spirit said, "Stop praying, it won't do any good!"

I was astounded and confused. As I pressed in the Lord said, "As they have done unto My people Israel so I shall do unto them." My mind flashed back to the article the Holy Spirit led me to write on May 28th, 2005, entitled "The Coming Judgment of the Nations," www.voicefromzion.org The Lord was clearly revealing to me that no amount of prayer or intercession would be able to hold back God's judgment on America unless our leaders turned away from their "Roadmap" plan to divide Israel and give the land over to a foreign god ? Allah!

He was revealing to me that there is a direct connection between events that took place in Gaza and the horrendous events now taking place in America in the aftermath of Katrina. Sadly, among our national leaders there is absolutely no understanding of the direct connection between what took place earlier this month in Gaza and the powerful hurricane that has just destroyed New Orleans, Gulf Port, Biloxi, and the Gulf Coast. To anyone with spiritual eyes to see and a heart to understand God's prophetic word it is clear that the Lord God has removed His hand of protection from America.

Yet, as we write this article this attitude of "business as usual," continues from the top down in our government. Our President has offered prayers for those suffering from this disaster, yet he has yet to suggest a need for national repentance. From his speech on television it seems that he mistakenly believes we can recover from this terrible wound and continue with our current policies and way of life. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Our government is intent on dividing the land of Israel, a land given to the Jewish people by God as an everlasting possession. Major religious denominations in America and England have begun an economic boycott of Israel, causing their pension funds to sell off the stock of any company that does business with Israel.

It seems that our leaders as well as many main stream denominations have forgotten God's prophetic word regarding the descendants of Abraham.

Genesis 12:3 -- "I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed."

There is simply no recognition by any of our leaders that any President, Prime Minister, Secretary of State, King, Prince, prophet, nation or organization that seeks to cause Israel to break covenant with the God of Israel causing them to divide the land of Israel and forfeit their inheritance is touching God Himself.

In New Orleans even the dead have come up out of their graves to float among the dead in the streets of New Orleans. As this is being written there are those who slept in their graves in Gaza that have been exhumed and removed to be re-buried elsewhere in Israel.

Why has this all come about? What is the connection between Gaza and Katrina? The connection is the judgment of God upon America. He is revealing quite clearly that whatever America has done to Israel or will do in the future, the God of Israel is going to do the exact same thing to America.

The Day of the Lord and the Future

For the day of the Lord draws near on all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you. Your dealings will return on your own head. "Because just as you drank on My holy mountain, All the nations will drink continually. They will drink and swallow and become as if they had never existed. Obadiah 1:15-16

Dear friends in the future it will not be "business as usual." We have entered a different time and season. We are in the very midst of the "birth pangs," Jesus prophesied about in Matthew 24. I believe the tsunami that took place on December 26, 2004 was one of the major signs of the "birth pangs," or the beginning of the time of the judgment of the nations. The tsunami represented the "breaking of a woman's water," prior to giving birth. When a woman's water breaks there is no stopping the birth pangs; no more false labor; the only thing that will stop the birth pangs is the birth of the baby!

Events that are unfolding in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are only the beginning of what America is going to experience because God has removed His hand of protection from us.

The question each of you must answer is this:

what is the Lord calling you to do for a time such as this?

First and foremost we are called to pray that in His mercy the Lord will cause our leaders and Israel's leaders to repent, calling for national repentance for our sins against Him and His people Israel.

If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray, and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

Second, we are called to pray that our leaders and Israel's leaders will understand the consequences of not repenting and turning the people's hearts back to the Lord.

At one moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to uproot, to pull down, or to destroy it; if that nation against which I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent concerning the calamity I planned to bring on it. Or at another moment I might speak concerning a nation or concerning a kingdom to build up or to plant it; if it does evil in My sight by not obeying My voice, then I will think better of the good with which I had promised to bless it. But they will say, 'It's hopeless! For we are going to follow our own plans, and each of us will act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart. (Jeremiah 18:7-10 12)

Thirdly, we are all being called to become "overcomers." John's message to the churches in the book of Revelation all ended with the same exhortation; "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant." What did Jesus mean when He called us to be "overcomers?"

And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even to death.( Revelation 12:11)

Ask yourself the question; will you become what the Lord has called you to be for a time such? Will the word of your testimony be living and active as a two edged sword? Will you shrink back or will you be a light to those who live in darkness?

Know and understand that your time of testing is near.

Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you? unless indeed you fail the test? But I trust that you will realize that we ourselves do not fail the test. ( 2 Corinthians 13:5-6)

Purpose in your heart to be an overcomer in Christ for a time such as this!

Bulk of This Season's Storms Still to Come

NOAA Magazine || NOAA Home Page || Previous Story

NOAA RAISES THE 2005 ATLANTIC HURRICANE SEASON OUTLOOK
Bulk of This Season's Storms Still to Come

NOAA satellite image of Hurricane Dennis as the storm made landfall near Pensacola, Fla., as a Category Three hurricane on July 10, 2005.Aug. 2, 2005 ? A very active Atlantic hurricane season is underway, and with more storms projected, NOAA today increased the number of storms in its 2005 hurricane season outlook. NOAA expects an additional 11 to 14 tropical storms from August through November, with seven to nine becoming hurricanes, including three to five major hurricanes. In total, this season is likely to yield 18 to 21 tropical storms, with nine to 11 becoming hurricanes, including five to seven major hurricanes. (Click NOAA satellite image for larger view of Hurricane Dennis as the storm made landfall near Pensacola, Fla., as a Category Three hurricane on July 10, 2005. "The tropics are only going to get busier as we enter the peak of the season," said Brig. Gen. David L. Johnson, USAF (Ret.), director of the NOAA National Weather Service. "This may well be one of the most active Atlantic hurricane seasons on record, and will be the ninth above-normal Atlantic hurricane season in the last eleven years."

NOAA image of 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook Update."Although we have already seen a record-setting seven tropical storms during June and July, much of the season's activity is still to come," said Gerry Bell, lead meteorologist on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Seasonal Outlook. The predicted high levels of activity during the remainder of the season are consistent with NOAA's pre-season outlook issued last spring, and are comparable to those seen during August to October of the very active 2003 and 2004 seasons. (Click NOAA image for larger view of 2005 Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook Update. Please credit ?NOAA.?)

Atmospheric and oceanic conditions that favor an active hurricane season are now in place, as was predicted in the pre-season outlook. "Warmer-than-normal sea-surface temperatures and low wind shear are among the culprits behind these stronger and more numerous storms," Bell added.

This confluence of optimal ocean and atmosphere conditions has been known to produce increased tropical storm activity in multi-decadal (approximately 20-30 year) cycles. Because of this, NOAA expects a continuation of above-normal seasons for another decade or perhaps longer. NOAA's research shows that this reoccurring cycle is the dominant climate factor that controls Atlantic hurricane activity. Any potentially weak signal associated with longer-term climate change appears to be a minor factor.

NOAA image of the conditions NOAA expects for the rest of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. The multi-decadal signal that has contributed to increased Atlantic activity since 1995 has also produced a marked decrease in hurricanes in the eastern Pacific hurricane region. Similar conditions also produced very active Atlantic hurricane seasons during the 1950s and 1960s. In contrast, the opposite phase of this signal during 1970-1994 resulted in only three above-normal Atlantic hurricane seasons in the entire 25-year period. (Click NOAA image for larger view of the conditions NOAA expects for the rest of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. Please credit ?NOAA.?)

Conditions that steer hurricanes toward land are well known, but are difficult to predict on seasonal time scales and are often related to daily weather patterns. However, historical records indicate that an average of two to three additional hurricanes could strike the U.S. between August and November.

NOAA image of the sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean.?Knowing precisely where a hurricane will strike and at what intensity cannot be determined even a few days in advance,? said Max Mayfield, director of the NOAA National Hurricane Center. Mayfield adds, ?Residents and government agencies of coastal and near-coastal regions should embrace hurricane preparedness efforts and should be ready well before a tropical storm or hurricane watch is posted.? (Click NOAA image for larger view of the sea surface temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean. Please credit ?NOAA.?)

An average Atlantic hurricane season, which runs from June 1 through November 30, produces 10 named storms in which six become hurricanes, including two major hurricanes with winds of at least 111 mph. The most active hurricane season was in 1933 with 21 storms, followed by 1995 with 19 storms. The most hurricanes in a season was 12 in 1969, and the highest number of major hurricanes was eight in 1950.

NOAA image of the vertical wind shear associated with above normal hurricane season. The 2005 Atlantic hurricane outlook is a joint product of scientists at NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, Hurricane Research Division and National Hurricane Center. NOAA meteorologists use a suite of sophisticated numerical models and high-tech tools to forecast tropical storms and hurricanes. Scientists rely on information gathered by NOAA and the U.S. Air Force Reserve personnel who fly directly into storms in hurricane hunter aircraft; NOAA, NASA and the U.S. Department of Defense satellites; NOAA data buoys, weather radars and partners among the international meteorological services. (Click NOAA image for larger view of the vertical wind shear associated with above normal hurricane season. Please credit ?NOAA.?)

NOAA, an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, is dedicated to enhancing economic security and national safety through the prediction and research of weather and climate-related events and providing environmental stewardship of the nation's coastal and marine resources.

New Orleans in chaos, rescue plan under fire

New Orleans in chaos, rescue plan under fire

By Mark Babineck2 hours, 1 minute ago

New Orleans fell deeper into chaos on Friday with gangs roaming the streets and corpses rotting in the sun a full four days after Hurricane Katrina lashed the city and exposed federal aid efforts as a failure.

A long military convoy of emergency supplies finally rolled into the flooded city on Friday morning, the first sign of significant relief after days of delays and broken promises.

Armed troops rode on the convoy and began giving out instructions to residents desperate for food, clean water and basic medical care.

Hospitals lacking drugs and power were in a desperate fight to save critically ill patients and thousands of people who lost relatives and all they own in raging floodwaters sat on sidewalks waiting for long-delayed help.

Hit by mounting criticism that his administration was too slow to respond, President Bush conceded the rescue efforts were "not acceptable" and promised to fix them. "We'll deploy the assets necessary to get the situation under control," Bush said as he left Washington to tour the region.

He told reporters in Biloxi, Mississippi that a top priority was getting troops into New Orleans to secure the city and ensure delivery of relief supplies.

The military convoys raised hopes that the government might finally be getting a grip on the crisis.

In another positive sign, commercial aircraft flew in and out of New Orleans International Airport at an improved rate of four an hour to drop off supplies and evacuate displaced residents, many of them seriously ill.

Also, the U.S. House of Representatives gave final passage to a $10.5 billion emergency-aid bill that Bush was expected to sign later in the day.

But thousands of people are feared dead and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said he was furious at the lack of help his historic city had received.

"I need reinforcements. I need troops, man. I need 500 buses, man," he said in a radio interview. "Now get off your asses and fix this. Let's do something and let's fix the biggest goddamn crisis in the history of this country."

Plumes of thick black smoke rose after a mighty explosion rocked an industrial area hit hard by Katrina, and an apartment complex in the center was also in flames.

DESPERATE TO ESCAPE

Stunned residents stumbled around bodies that lay rotting and untouched. Others trudged along flooded and debris-strewn streets toward the Superdome football stadium where they hoped to be bused to safety.

Some angrily accused authorities of dividing evacuees into lines of men on one side and women and children on the other, effectively splitting up families.

"If you've got to drag me, then you'll have to drag me. I've done lost everything else, I'm not gonna lose my kids," said Albert Sumlin, who refused to get on a bus until he was reunited with wife and children.

Most of the victims were poor and black, largely because they have no cars and so were unable to flee the city before Katrina pounded the U.S. Gulf Coast on Monday. The disaster has highlighted the racial and class divides in a city and a country where the gap between rich and poor is vast.

The U.S. response would be a moral test, said U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings (news, bio, voting record), a Maryland Democrat and former head of the Congressional Black Caucus.

"Many of those now in such dire circumstances were already living in poverty and destitution even before the hurricane came. They had no ability to evacuate and now their very survival depends upon the response of this country," he said.

The scenes of destruction and mayhem resembled a major Third World refugee crisis, angering politicians and local residents who said the lack of aid was unacceptable in the world's richest country.

"Operational effectiveness is an 'F' or a grade lower, if there is such a grade," said U.S. Sen. David Vitter, a Republican from Louisiana.

Michael Brown, director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, said 14,000 Guard troops were on the ground along the Gulf coast and he expected 30,000 there in the coming days.

Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco said they were going with shoot-to-kill orders. "These troops are battle-tested. They have M-16s and are locked and loaded."

But Nagin questioned why they had not come sooner. "People are dying, people have lost their homes, people have lost their jobs. The city of New Orleans will never be the same."

Shell-shocked storm survivors said they were stunned by what had happened in their city known as a carefree place of jazz and French Quarter bars.

"Call it biblical. Call it apocalyptic. Whatever you want to call it, take your pick," said 46-year-old Robert Lewis, who was rescued as floodwaters invaded his home.

"There were bodies floating past my front door. I've never seen anything like that," he said, near tears.

The tragedy caused by Katrina did not end in New Orleans.

Storm survivors were shipped to the Houston Astrodome where the government had hoped to house 25,000 evacuees, but then limited the population to 13,000 as conditions began to deteriorate.

Officials diverted buses full of evacuees to other shelters, including the Reliant Arena next door.

Katrina forced hundreds of thousands of people from their homes and shut refineries along the Gulf Coast shut, sending gasoline prices at the pump soaring to new records of well over $3 a gallon in most parts of the country.

Mich. Governor Declares Gas Emergency
Aug 31, 2005, 01:36 PM

The governor has declared an energy emergency for the state of
Michigan, saying the state needs additional fuel supplies to meet driver
demand. Meantime, gas prices soared even higher as stations hit $3.19.

The worst absolutely appears to be ahead of us. Production is still
stopped,
s hipping lanes are still blocked, t hat means the supply of petroleum
is
starting to dry up,and soon drivers could be facing not only higher
prices,
but also a shortage of fuel at the pump. In the wake of the storm, oil
production in the gulf has come to a standstill.

Dan Webster Avery, oil owner: "T here are 8 refineries down because of
the
hurricane, 2 more running at diminished capacity."

Dan Webster heads an oil distribution company in Mason. Because of the
cut
in gulf production, distributors are making cuts of their own.

Dan Webster Avery: "Normally we take a transport into 1 location.
Today, we
took it to 4 stations just to keep them going."

That means stations that normally get 14,000 gallons got just 3,500
gallons.
That kept the stations in mid-Michigan open for business, b ut soon
distributors say even that might not be possible.

Dan Webster Avery: "There is a possibility of some outages at certain
stations."

And while distributors are watching supply, drivers are keeping their
eye on
the price. It was $3.19 in Lansing a nd higher in some places around
the
country, a ll because oil companies are demanding higher prices for
distribution.

Dan Webster Avery: "Yesterday it was up 46 cents a gallon, highest I've
ever
seen in 28 years."

Combine increasing prices with decreasing supply and the likelihood
that
refineries in the gulf won't come back on line any time soon, and
distributors say the price likely still hasn't hit its high.

Dan Webster Avery: "With the tightness of supply, you're going to see
prices
keep increasing."

There is a little bit of good news on the fuel front. The President
plans to
increase the supply by tapping into a reserve. Of course only time will
tell
whether it will be enough to curb the skyrocketing price.

School Buses May Stop Because Of Gas Shortage

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orange County School district canceled busing for
all
extracurricular activities Wednesday, including sports, and may have to
cancel all busing Friday.

It's all because of fuel shortages caused in the hurricane's wake, WESH
2
News reported.

"Hurricane Katrina has impacted central Florida more than we know,"
said
Orange County Schools Superintendent Ron Blocker. "I'm temporarily
terminating or canceling the transportation we normally provide for all
field trips, and after-hour events."

That means band members and football players will have to find their
own
transportation to games. So will athletes in all other Orange County
school
sports.

The nation's 12th largest school district is getting barely enough
diesel
fuel from suppliers to run its 1,100 buses a day.

It's gotten so bad for several local school districts that some drivers
are
pulling up to regular fuel stations to get their diesel.

Driver Juan Diaz found out Wednesday he is only allowed to fill half
his
tank because buying from retailers is more expensive. It could add 50
percent to 75 percent onto the regular cost of running buses.

And it could get much worse. If Orange County does not get its regular
diesel delivery Thursday, the district may cancel all busing to and
from
school as soon as Friday.

"If the supplies do not come through, I want to give our parents,
specifically our community in general, as much notice as possible that
there
will have to be adjustments in how our students come to school,"
Blocker
said.

In short, without buses, students will have to walk, ride bikes or get
rides
to and from school.

Other school districts in Central Florida are wrestling with the fuel
crunch. Seminole County has canceled busing for field trips and will
decide
Thursday if sports and other transportation will be cut.

Lake, Marion, Volusia, and Brevard counties are monitoring the
situation but
have made no changes as yet.

CRISIS - Florida: Katrina's Effect on Power Means Rationing and
Brownouts

KATRINA'S AFTERMATH
Katrina's effect on power means Fla. brownouts

Robert Perez | Sentinel Staff Writer
Posted August 31, 2005

Florida utility companies began rationing power Tuesday to hundreds of
thousands of customers because of disruptions in natural-gas supplies
caused
by Hurricane Katrina.

Utility officials, who asked all customers in Florida to conserve
electricity, warned that shortages could affect the state's ability to
produce power for weeks and possibly months.

The brownouts are targeting homes, businesses and government offices
that
participate in voluntary energy-management programs. Power is being cut
temporarily to air conditioners, water heaters and pool pumps during
peak-demand periods.

Power is not being shut off completely to anyone and those not in an
energy-saving program are unaffected.

But all customers are being encouraged to eliminate non-essential
electric
use by turning off unnecessary lights and appliances and avoiding use
of
dishwashers, pool pumps and other appliances during the late-afternoon
and
evening hours.

ACT OF GOD DESTROYS NEW ORLEANS
DAYS BEFORE "SOUTHERN DECADENCE"

PHILADELPHIA -  Just days before ?Southern Decadence?, an annual homosexual celebration attracting tens of thousands of people to the French Quarters section of New Orleans, an act of God destroys the city.

?Southern Decadence? has a history of filling the French Quarters section of the city with drunken homosexuals engaging in sex acts in the public streets and bars. Last year, a local pastor sent video footage of sex acts being performed in front of police to the mayor, city council, and the media. City officials simply ignored the footage and continued to welcome and praise the weeklong celebration as being an ?exciting event?. However, Hurricane Katrina has put an end to the annual celebration of sin.

On the official ?Southern Decadence? website (www.SouthernDecadence.com), it states that the annual event brought in ?125,000 revelers? to New Orleans last year, increasing by thousands each year, and up from ?over 50,000 revelers? in 1997. This year?s 34th annual ?Southern Decadence? was set for Wednesday, August 31, 2005 through Monday, September 5, 2005, but due to massive flooding and the damage left by the hurricane, Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco has ordered everyone to evacuate the city.

The past three mayors of New Orleans, including Sidney Barthelomew, Marc H. Morial, and C. Ray Nagin, issued official proclamations welcoming visitors to ?Southern Decadence?. Additionally, New Orleans City Council made other proclamations recognizing the annual homosexual celebration.

?Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city,? stated Repent America director Michael Marcavage. ?From ?Girls Gone Wild? to ?Southern Decadence?, New Orleans was a city that opened its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin.  May it never be the same,? he continued.

New Orleans is also known for its Mardi Gras parties where thousands of drunken men revel in the streets to exchange plastic jewelry for drunken women to expose their breasts. This annual event sparked the creation of the ?Girls Gone Wild? video series.

?Let us pray for those ravaged by this disaster. However, we must not forget that the citizens of New Orleans tolerated and welcomed the wickedness in their city for so long,? Marcavage said. ?May this act of God cause us all to think about what we tolerate in our city limits, and bring us trembling before the throne of Almighty God,? Marcavage concluded.

?[God] sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust?. (Matthew 5:45)

EARTH CHANGES UPDATE - America Under Siege

EARTH CHANGES UPDATE

UPDATE AUGUST 31, 2005

AMERICA UNDER SIEGE!

The damage done by Katrina will take months to assess because of the utter devastation caused along the coast. New Orleans is being totally flooded by breaches in the levees which will not be fixed in time. Parts of it may never be rebuilt. Pray for all those affected by this massive disaster, but be warned - this is only the beginning for many more disasters of this type are on the way and there will be millions of "refugees" in America. We have been warning people for the last 10 years AT LEAST to get out of the EAST COASTAL REGIONS, THE GULF COASTAL AREA AND THE WESTERN COASTS OF THE UNITED STATES AND MOVE INLAND. People simply refuse to listen, and thus have to pay the PIPER when disaster comes their way.

These warnings we have issued were based upon the best intelligence this world has ever had: THE PROPHETIC WORD OF THE HOLY BIBLE. If you ignore it, you will pay a terrible price. It is backed up and confirmed by many scientific facts, which are also totally ignored.

Sad to say, however, a lot of people just cannot and will not face up to the facts of what is happening or why it is happening. This includes our leaders, almost all government officials, and the vast majority of our population, including the vast majority of our so-called "Christian Leaders" who are the blind leading the blind, and they shall all fall in the ditch together.

Sin in America is reaching epic proportions, with abortion, sex sins of every type and descriptions, drug addicts, rapes, murderers, thieves, all forms of corruption, a supreme Court that HATES GOD WITH A PASSION, with judges all over this nation ruling against the Lord of Lords, with community leaders all over this nation stopping Christian practices, the all but OUTLAWING OF CHRIST and  the VERY MENTION OF HIS NAME,  but God has no right to send a WARNING? ARE YOU FOLKS OUT THERE THAT SEND NASTY E-MAILS BRAIN DEAD OR WHAT? Do you all honestly think that God is not going to deal with America the same way He has always dealt with sin of such huge and epic proportions?

I have news for all of you. America is in the cross hairs of God's judgment, and that judgment will not stop until America ceases to be. That means you and I, that means Gramma and Grampa, our sisters and brothers, it means EVERYONE. But most of all, it means YOU. The only way, and it is THE ONLY WAY, to stop this is for the American Government and its people to REPENT OF THEIR GROSS AND EVIL SINS WHICH THEY REFUSE TO DO. No, instead they write nasty letters, threaten the watchmen with their very lives, and the government, through the FBI issues PROJECT MEGIDDO, which brands those Christians who actually BELIEVE WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS as "possible terrorists"!! They raise their fists in anger and shout "GOD BLESS AMERICA!"

But then, The Bible itself says that the American people, the modern day Babylonians, and so dead in their trespasses and sins, so materialistic in their outlook, that they have GROSS DARKNESS OVER THEIR SOULS AND SPIRITS, and are BLIND, and CANNOT SEE, and WILL NOT SEE, and thus CANNOT REPENT, CANNOT CHANGE THEIR WAYS, but must, as all nations in the past, go down in utter defeat. What a sad story when WARNING JUDGMENTS COME that people are totally unable to comprehend the WHAT, WHY, AND HOW of these judgments.

I have been warning the American people for the last 20 years that JUDGMENT WAS ON THE WAY. In 1989 I was told by the Lord THE JUDGMENT HAD STARTED. It has now begun in earnest - and you better take heed, lest you die in your sins, for what is happening to the people in New Orleans is nothing compared to an eternity in hell, which Jesus Christ says MOST OF HIS OWN PEOPLE WILL BE VISITING IN THE NEAR FUTURE because of their gross refusals to do as He commanded them.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. YOUR BLOOD IS NOT ON MY HANDS.

The latest from Larry Taylor - Oh, how people HATE THE REAL TRUTH!

Well, God forbid, I posted another Sorcha Faal article yesterday and today some quit the list and few sent emails that I'm helping the enemy? Many of you have no idea what's really going on right now! I will not post quite a number of things that I have information on. There are many sources but so many don't like the source....... If my purpose is to just 'tickle' EARS, then just find a BLOG you like and makes you feel all warm and good..! Most of what I call 'friends' are I admit, STRANGE FOLKS, me included and there are voices crying out day after day, to avoid their material or writings like the plague. All my friends are DEMONS according to so many....! BUT, those screaming and yelling the warnings never have an answer and never fill in the gaps of those they call names and put down daily! I have friends who pray for me and I pray for them. I can call them on the phone and say 'Help' and trust them......Those are my friends! Some of my radical frends are such as: STEVE QUAYLE - Boy, does he suffer angry mobs; STEWART BEST - must be the most hated man in America, according to some Blogs!; STAN DEYO - talks in terms some can't spell; ZEPH DANIEL - don't never say it like everyone else; TOM HORN - writes fiction that drips of truth!; PATRICK HERON - Talks bad about the Nephilim? And what does he mean, "They're coming back...!" ; etc, etc, etc,........ anyway, I used to think Art Bell was 'full of it' when he kept saying," You can't handle the truth!" I have written so many times: " Just DELETE what you don't like without reading it." But some just have to read what they so obviously don't like and then WRITE ME their warning or dislike! Just a tad irritated at people that take it upon themselves to set me straight "early in the morning".... I'm not a morning person and as a friend of mine remarked one day joking with me," I don't play well with people!" Just going to continue to POST what I feel needs to be posted....! Katrina Prompts Global Support for Victims

Katrina Prompts Global Support for Victims

By DANICA KIRKA, Associated Press WriterWed Aug 31, 7:23 PM ET

From papal prayers to telegrams from China, the world reacted with an outpouring of compassion Wednesday for the victims of Hurricane Katrina in messages tinged by shock that a disaster of this scale could occur in the United States.

Islamic extremists rejoiced in America's misfortune, giving the storm a military rank and declaring in Internet chatter that "Private" Katrina had joined the global jihad, or holy war. With "God's help," they declared, oil prices would hit $100 a barrel this year.

Venezuela's government, which has had tense relations with Washington, offered humanitarian aid and fuel. Venezuela's Citgo Petroleum Corp. pledged a $1 million donation for hurricane aid.

Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz also called President Bush to offer assistance. The minister of petroleum and mineral resources said Monday that Saudi Arabia is ready to immediately increase its crude oil production to replace any market shortages and help stabilize world crude prices.

The storm was seen as an equalizer ? proof that any country, weak or strong, can be victimized by a natural disaster. Images of flood-ravaged New Orleans earned particular sympathy in central Europe, where dozens died in raging floodwaters only days ago.

"Nature proved that no matter how rich and economically developed you are, you can't fight it," says Danut Afasei, a local official in Romania's Harghita county, where flooding killed 13 people last week.

Throughout Europe, concerned citizens lamented the loss of life and the damage caused to New Orleans, often described as one of North America's most "European" cities.

French President Jacques Chirac and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder sent messages of sympathy to President Bush. Chirac, who has famously quarreled with Bush over the Iraq war, addressed this letter, "Dear George."

Pope Benedict XVI said he was praying for victims of the "tragic" hurricane while China's President Hu Jintao expressed his "belief that that the American people will definitely overcome the natural disaster and rebuild their beautiful homeland."

Britain's Queen Elizabeth II also sent a message to Bush saying she was "deeply shocked and saddened" at the devastation caused by the hurricane and expressing her condolences, "especially to the families of those who have lost their lives, to the injured and to all who have been affected by this terrible disaster."

The U.S. Embassy in Bern, Switzerland ? a capital at the foot of the Alps hit by flooding last week ? said calls were rushing in from Swiss individuals and institutions looking for a way to donate to relief efforts.

"We are getting calls from the Swiss public looking to express their condolences, (and) people are also asking for an account number where they can make donations," said spokesman Daniel Wendell.

The Internet-edition Vienna daily Der Standard had recorded 820 postings commenting on a front-page story on the hurricane. In one of the postings, signature "Emerald" asked where money could be donated to the victims, but the question sparked a debate about whether a rich country like the United States needed such aid.

In response, one posting, from signature "far out," argued that hurricane victims who are poor still needed support.

A spokeswoman for the Canadian Red Cross said lists of volunteers experienced in large-scale disasters were being assembled.

Amid the sympathy, however, there was criticism.

As U.S. military engineers struggled to shore up breached levees, experts in the Netherlands expressed surprise that New Orleans' flood systems failed to restrain the raging waters.

With half of the country's population of 16 million living below sea level, the Netherlands prepared for a "perfect storm" soon after floods in 1953 killed 2,000 people. The nation installed massive hydraulic sea walls.

"I don't want to sound overly critical, but it's hard to imagine that (the damage caused by Katrina) could happen in a Western country," said Ted Sluijter, spokesman for the park where the sea walls are exhibited. "It seemed like plans for protection and evacuation weren't really in place, and once it happened, the coordination was on loose hinges."

The sympathy was muted in some corners by a sense that the United States reaped what it sowed, since the country is seen as the main contributor to global warming.

Joern Ehlers, a spokesman for World Wildlife Fund Germany, said global warming had increased the intensity of hurricanes.

"The Americans have a big impact on the greenhouse effect," Ehlers said.

But Harlan L. Watson, the U.S. envoy for negotiations on climate change, denied any link between global warming and the strength of storms.

"Our scientists are telling us right now that there's not a linkage," he said in Geneva. "I'll rely on their information."
