Giant Sinkhole could Gobble up Florida Homes

  This sinkhole was growing April 19, 2014 near 2 houses in The Villages retirement community in Sumter County.(Helicon Property Restoration, Helicon Property Restoration / April 19, 2014)

• Crews were called out a few weeks ago to fill in the hole and secure one of the homes with steel underpinnings

• But heavy rains over the weekend caused the hole to reappear bigger than ever on Saturday

• Since then, authorities have been working around the clock to fill the hole with sand and cement
• 
  
• They believe both homes will be safe if the hole doesn't grow any larger
• 
  
• Both homes are evacuated

50 ft sinkhole opens up between two Florida homes

May continue to grow- 

Officials say if the sinkhole spreads, more people could be asked to leave.

Those affected were evacuated from The Villages Saturday.

Workers spent Saturday dumping 15 truckloads of concrete into the hole and "hadn't put a dent in it,"  said Battalion Chief Pete Carpenter of The Villages Fire Rescue.

"It's just continuing to grow," he said.

The Villages is a sprawling 55-and-older community that straddles Sumter, Lake and Marion counties. The sinkhole is on the Sumter side.

The rainy season, which is starting in Florida, increases the chance of sinkholes, experts say.

"It's Florida," Carpenter said. "There are sinkholes everywhere."

Crews are expected to be there throughout the night to fill the hole.

Sumter County deputies say the hole first opened up about three weeks ago but was filled. Deputies believe it opened up again last night because of the rain.

  The Blue Ribbon Commission members were recruited by the Government. They work on behalf of the government; NOT the people. Just like the 9/11 committee. People of Bayou Corne and surrounding areas - DON'T LET THESE greedy, in bed with the Feds, get away with this!

  A person that does not put property or other material things over peoples lives. No one from APPJ, CB&I, the airboats, dirt haulers, skimmers, contract workers, etc. That includes TB workers. Some of them that live right here in our parish, just as afraid, and suffering loss too. THAT is who I thanked. Who in the FUCK are YOU to come on MY page where I post with nothing but honesty and tell ME how I should think or feel, and question my integrity just because I feel differently than you?

  Did they ever say WHY they cannot pump all that oil and gas back out of the ground ? because thats what they need to do or the whole Top of the salt Dome will be Liquefied and there will be one big Toxic saltwater lake where Bayou Corne once was! i guarantee

  I keep repeating, forgive me -We are heading towards huge disasters by the increasing heat of the environment and the winding stress on earth - get prepared for hurricanes, flash floods/snows, earth quakes and volcanic eruptions. It appears humanity will awaken only when his ground is shaken to the core. There is hope if the world awakens to the principle and design on which earth functions to maintain certain energy to matter ratio .
