Officials say that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was unarmed when arrested in boat

Some officials who wish to remain anonymous tell the Associated Press that 'no gun was found in the boat'.

The police commissioner had said earlier that gunshots were exchanged between police and the occupant of the boat.

So which is it?

The FBI was last night hunting a 12-strong terrorist “sleeper cell” linked to the Boston marathon bomb brothers.

Police believe Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were specially trained to carry out the devastating attack.

More than 1,000 FBI agents were last night working to track down the cell and arrested a man and two women 60 miles from Boston in the hours before Dzhokhar’s dramatic capture after a bloody shootout on Friday.

A source close to the investigation said: “We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google.

“They were too advanced. Someone gave the brothers the skills and it is now our job to find out just who they were. Agents think the sleeper cell has up to a dozen members and has been waiting several years for their day to come.”

Suspected Boston bomber at center of debate how to try him

The FBI released a photo of Suspect 2, identified as Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, of Cambridge, Massachusetts on April 19, 2013. He and his brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, are suspected of planting the bombs that killed three and injured 170 during the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. UPI 

U.S. Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina said Tsarnaev can be held as a potential enemy combatant under the Law of War, CNN reported Saturday.


"It's "impossible" to consider the ethnic Chechen an enemy combatant, said Alan Dershowitz, a Harvard law professor.

"There's no way an American citizen committing a domestic crime in the city of Boston could be tried as an enemy combatant. It could never happen," he said
