Massive 10 Alarm Fire-Cambridge MA

Firefighters from a handful of Boston-area departments are battling a raging, 10-alarm fire that is consuming multiple buildings in Cambridge, fire officials said.

The fire, which the Cambridge Fire Department says was first reported about 2 p.m. at the intersection of Berkshire and Vandine streets, cast a huge plume of smoke into the sky that could be seen from vantage points across Boston.

The blaze ignited seven buildings and several cars, prompted the evacuation of a large portion of the neighborhood, and knocked out power to hundreds of residents, fire officials said.

After the 10-alarm fire in Cambridge this weekend, several buildings in the Kendall Square area were left inhabitable and will be knocked down. 

Flames burned through 16 buildings on Berkshire Street - including a former church that was converted into condos - and multiple vehicles parked nearby.

"This looks almost like a third-world country after a bombing," Fire Chief Gerald Reardon told reporters Saturday. 

He called it "miraculous" that no one was killed in the fire. 

Following the damage, firefighters are still reeling. "I hope I never see it again," Cambridge assistant fire chief Gerard E. Mahoney told reporters Monday morning.

Members of the Cambridge Fire Department were at the scene Monday as demolition began on at least two of the Berkshire Street buildings.

A Jesus Christ statue was the only thing left standing after a Gatlinburg home was reduced to a smoldering pile of ash by the Tennessee wildfires.

The statue was covered in ash and soot but was otherwise miraculously unharmed in the blaze which wiped out hundreds of homes, businesses and acres of woodland.

The Jesus statue was the second religious item which seemed to beat the odds to survive the wildfires. 

Yesterday, a Dollywood employee claimed he had found a burned Bible page referring to the fires of doomsday in the aftermath of the Tennessee wildfires.

Lone Bible page found in Gatlinburg after the fire:

Isaac McCord, 24, says he was helping his coworkers clean up Dollywood, Dolly Parton's theme park, after the devastating wildfires when he came across a scrap of paper lying in puddle.

When he stooped down to see what it was, he says he was stunned to realize it was a page from the Bible.

But he was even surprised when he began reading; the page was a doomsday prophecy from the Book of Joel.

The verses talk about a fire which 'devoured the pastures' and flames which have 'burned up all the trees' as the 'day when destruction comes from the Almighty' draws near.

'I turned ghost white and immediately stopped what I was doing,' McCord said. 'Talk about goosebumps.

'I preserved it and I'm going to have it framed.'

The blackened page is Verses 15, 19, 20 and chapter 2 verse 1 from Book of Joel, King James version of the Bible. 

 McCord, whose says his home and family were not damaged by the fire, says the finding has made him reassess his faith.

I just found this while helping our House and Grounds team clean different areas of Dollywood Theme Park. It was under a bench soaking wet. Talk about goosebumps....

U.S Officials Warn Of Al-Qaeda Terrorist Attack On Monday

This potential ‘terror threat’ is supposed to happen the day or evening before the election. But what to expect post election? I am convinced it will be civil unrest, no matter who wins this election. Please prepare yourselves and loved ones.

The FBI and New York Police Department said Friday that they are assessing the credibility of information they received of a possible al-Qaeda terror attack against the US on the eve of Election Day. As Election Day nears, federal law enforcement is planning for several worst-case scenarios.

FBI, NYPD assess intelligence as New York, Texas and Virginia mentioned as potential targets

Earlier this week, an alert warned local police of “polling places” being seen as “attractive targets” for “lone wolf”-type attacks by individuals motivated by violent extremist ideologies, sovereign citizen or other extremist activity.

CBS News has learned about a potential terror threat for the day before the election.

Sources told CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton that U.S. intelligence has alerted joint terrorism task forces that al Qaeda could be planning attacks in three states for Monday.

It is believed New York, Texas and Virginia are all possible targets, though no specific locations are mentioned. A U.S. law enforcement source briefed on the threat information told CBS News’ Milton that the threat is possibly legitimate and concerning.

The source said the threat may be aspirational and hence the lack of specificity. The source said there has been pressure on al Qaeda and its affiliates AQAP and AQIS (al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent) to regain relevance with its mission. [CBS]

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates airports, tunnels and bridges around New York City, continues high levels of patrol it has had in place, spokesman Steve Coleman said.

Coleman declined to offer details on the warning, but the New York City Police Department said the threat report lacked specifics and was still being assessed.

“We are aware of the information,” the department said in a statement, adding that it was working with intelligence agencies and the Joint Terrorism Task Force.

The White House also said it was aware of the reported al Qaeda threats and mindful of increased risk of attacks during events such as Election Day.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a statement his office was monitoring the situation and urged Texans to remain vigilant. In Virginia, Brian Coy, a spokesman for Governor Terry McAuliffe, said: “We are doing everything we can to keep Virginians safe, and we’re confident they are going to be able to vote safely on Election Day.” [REUTERS]

An official report was released on Monday, stating that 6,342 “Special Interest Aliens” have been captured. This report shows just how bad it has gotten at the U.S.-Mexico border. The Immigrations and Customs Enforcements Agency recently endorsed Donald Trump, and now we know why.

Federal U.S. Agents working on the border in immigration facilities have detained over 6,000 Islamic aliens. Conservative Tribune confirmed this in a recent report on the state of our crumbling borders.

Adam Isacson, An analyst at the Washington Office in Latin America pointed out the specific location the jihadists where able to enter from. The Department of Homeland Security has acknowledged this glaringly weak area of Tapachula in the past, yet has failed to take any real action. It is an area that terrorist groups could easily use to funnel in weapons, ammunition, drugs, and sex slaves.

Even worse, security analysts have expressed large concerns that virtually all of the detained Muslims are members of Sharia cults in the Middle East.

All Of Them Were Found Carrying Fake Passports. They Used These To Enter From South America.

Furthermore, a report from Reuters added that the migrants were able to fly from Brazil using fake passports. The passports were smuggled in from Panama before the operation began, paving the way for unlimited amounts of entry in the future. Transcripts from 14 interviews conducted within the report confirm this.

An excerpt from the Reuters report is particularly troublesome:

“The fact that they possess forged identification papers makes it even more concerning that perhaps some of them haven’t been caught and are living among us, waiting for the right time to execute their plans.”

The Obama Administration has failed to act. It is clear that Islamic States are using the Tapachula weakness to arm ISIS within our borders. From the landing zone they are able to move quickly across the border with supplies and resources to continue their acts of terror.

Radioactive leaks found at 75% of US nuke sites

BRACEVILLE, Ill. — Radioactive tritium has leaked from three-quarters of U.S. commercial nuclear power sites, often into groundwater from corroded, buried piping, an Associated Press investigation shows.The number and severity of the leaks has been escalating, even as federal regulators extend the licenses of more and more reactors across the nation.

Tritium, which is a radioactive form of hydrogen, has leaked from at least 48 of 65 sites, according to U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission records reviewed as part of the AP's yearlong examination of safety issues at aging nuclear power plants.

Leaks from at least 37 of those facilities contained concentrations exceeding the federal drinking water standard — sometimes at hundreds of times the limit.

While most leaks have been found within plant boundaries, some have migrated offsite. But none is known to have reached public water supplies.

Leaks are prolific 

Like rust under a car, corrosion has propagated for decades along the hard-to-reach, wet underbellies of the reactors — generally built in a burst of construction during the 1960s and 1970s. As part of an investigation of aging problems at the country's nuclear reactors, the AP uncovered evidence that despite government and industry programs to bring the causes of such leaks under control, breaches have become more frequent and widespread.

There were 38 leaks from underground piping between 2000 and 2009, according to an industry document presented at a tritium conference. Nearly two-thirds of the leaks were reported over the latest five years.

Here are some examples:
At the three-unit Browns Ferry complex in Alabama, a valve was mistakenly left open in a storage tank during modifications over the years. When the tank was filled in April 2010 about 1,000 gallons of tritium-laden water poured onto the ground at a concentration of 2 million picocuries per liter. In drinking water, that would be 100 times higher than the EPA health standard.
At the LaSalle site west of Chicago, tritium-laden water was accidentally released from a storage tank in July 2010 at a concentration of 715,000 picocuries per liter — 36 times the EPA standard.
The year before, 123,000 picocuries per liter were detected in a well near the turbine building at Peach Bottom west of Philadelphia — six times the drinking water standard.
And in 2008, 7.5 million picocuries per liter leaked from underground piping at Quad Cities in western Illinois — 375 times the EPA limit.

Subsurface water not only rusts underground pipes, it attacks other buried components, including electrical cables that carry signals to control operations. They too have been failing at high rates.

A 2008 NRC staff memo reported industry data showing 83 failed cables between 21 and 30 years of service — but only 40 within their first 10 years of service. Underground cabling set in concrete can be extraordinarily difficult to replace.

When a radiation leak happens in Japan the whole world hears about it, but when not one but two radiation leaks happen in the United States no one does. There are radiation leak reports in Miami and New York, why is no one talking about it?

Miami Florida Nuclear Plant Is Pumping Polluted Water Into Biscayne Bay
The University of Miami has found that the Turkey Point Nuclear Power Plant, located just south of Miami, has caused levels of tritium, a radioactive isotope, in Biscayne Bay to spike to 200-times higher than normal levels.

Turkey Point is not the sole leaky plant in America.

Meanwhile, The Vermont Department of Health has noted ongoing investigations into leaks at Vermont Yankee since 2010, while New York’s FitzPatrick Plant has been “plagued by water leaks” in 2014, Gizmodo notes.

Last month, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo acknowledged that the state’s Indian Point Nuclear facility was leaking tritium into groundwater.

New York governor Andrew Cuomo recently called for an investigation after Indian Point, a nuclear power plant on the Hudson River reported a leak of radioactive material flowing into the groundwater. Samples taken from the local groundwater show that contamination levels are 80% higher than previous samples, prompting experts to claim this leak is spreading in “a disaster waiting to happen” and calling for the plant to be shut down completely.

“Unusual Event” Declared at South Carolina Nuclear Facility

OCONEE COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA — (Scroll down for video) — Fires and explosions were reported at the Oconee Nuclear Station on Sunday. The blaze is now under control.

According to WYFF, the facility has declared an “unusual event.” Emergency crews were responding. The fire chief tells local media a transformer caught fire.

Officials also said there is no public threat due to this incident. Officials say the fire broke out due to an equipment issue. They also found a down power line.

MORE: The Oconee Nuclear Station is a nuclear power plant located on Lake Keowee near Seneca, South Carolina, and has an energy output capacity of over 2,500 megawatts. It is the second nuclear power plant in the United States to have its operating license extended for an additional twenty years by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) (the application for the Calvert Cliffs plant in Maryland preceded it).
