Well, yes, in a manner of speaking. Bergoglio is an old-school Jesuit, formed by classic Ignatian spirituality and deeply committed to an intelligent, sophisticated appropriation and proclamation of the full symphony of Catholic truth — qualities not notable for their prevalence among members of the Society of Jesus in the early 21st century. I suspect there were not all that many champagne corks flying last night in those Jesuit residences throughout the world where the Catholic Revolution That Never Was is still regarded as the ecclesiastical holy grail. For the shrewder of the new pope’s Jesuit brothers know full well that that dream was just dealt another severe blow. And they perhaps fear that this pope, knowing the Society of Jesus and its contemporary confusions and corruptions as he does, just might take in hand the reform of the Jesuits that was one of the signal failures of the pontificate of John Paul II.
There will be endless readings of the tea leaves in the days ahead as the new pope, by word and gesture, offers certain signals as to his intentions and his program. But the essentials are already known. This is a keenly intelligent, deeply holy, humble, and shrewd man of the Gospel. He knows that he has been elected as a reformer, and the reforms he will implement are the reforms that will advance the New Evangelization. The rest is detail: important detail, to be sure, but still detail. The course is set, and the Church’s drive into the Evangelical Catholicism of the future has been accelerated by the pope who introduced himself to his diocese, and to the world, by bowing deeply as he asked for our prayers.

.It's a very good thing that we will have a pope
of Italian parents
, named for St. Francis Pietro (Peter) of Assisi, Italy, who will shepherd us during the tribulation, and during the destruction of Rome in these Last Days. He may well be the predicted martyr..he may be the pope that will be murdered, according to prophecies. As he was indeed canonically elected, he is the the Last True Pope. The Church lives in the hearts of people and is only beautifully celebrated in buildings. When they fall, as all temporal creations must, the hearts of people will still be temples of God.

The Prophecy of St. Francis Shortly before he died, St. Francis of Assisi called together his followers and warned them of the coming troubles, saying: 1. The time is fast approaching in which there will be great trials and ...
One of the most universal themes of modern private revelations is that of the suffering of the martyr-pope - a pontiff who leads the Catholic Church at a time of great trial, before being cruelly put to death by a group of assailants. An early prophetic tradition of the assassination of a pope at the end-time can be traced back to the Joachite movement of the early 13th century, in a text known as theCommentary on Jeremiah, found in the In Hieremiam:
The most famous prophecy of a martyr-pope is of course that found in the Third Secret:
...we saw in an immense light that is God: ‘something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it' a Bishop dressed in White ‘we had the impression that it was the Holy Father'. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God.
Sr. Lucia gave some additional material on the suffering of the martyr-pope in the Third Secret, which was seen in a vision by Blessed Jacinta. Lucia describes Jacinta's vision in her Third Memoir:
After a little while, Jacinta called out to me: “Didn’t you see the Holy Father?” “No.” “I don’t know how it happened, but I saw the Holy Father in a very big house, kneeling by a table, with his head buried in his hands, and he was weeping. Outside the house, there were many people. Some of them were throwing stones, others were cursing him and using bad language. Poor Holy Father, we must pray very much for him.”
Just got this Kindle edition and it looks promising. The new pope is of Italian parentage..he will live in ROME.. What a surprise that St. Francis's name is also Peter, as that is the translation of Pietro, St. Francis's middle given name. Just as Pope Benedict IV was not a Benedictine as everyone surmised, but chose that name which indeed fulfilled St. Malachy's prophecy, here is another clue - for those who have eyes to see - that God has a great sense of humor and love of riddles!
