Mysterious Unidentified Object Crashes in Myanmar

A large, unidentified metal object fell from the sky yesterday (Nov. 10) in the remote mountainous region of Myanmar.

The cylindrical object, which is about 12 feet (3.7 meters) long and 5 feet in diameter, blasted into the village of Lone Khin, near a jade mine. Villagers woke early in the morning to a loud boom and vibrations, when the object fell to the ground. Though no one was injured, the UFO ripped through a jade miner's tent, and afterwards, the smell of burning filled the air, according to The Myanmar Times.

A pair of major earthquakes struck near two of the world's major fault lines early Wednesday, August 24, 2016, in regions that have long histories of devastating temblors.

A magnitude 6.2 earthquake and a series of smaller subsequent quakes in central Italy killed dozens of people and collapsed many buildings overnight on Wednesday. Hours later and thousands of miles away, a separate magnitude 6.8 earthquake struck in Myanmar.

The earthquake's epicenter was in Myanmar, but its effects were reportedly felt in nearby Indian cities, including Delhi, Patna, Guwahati and Dehradun. In addition to the tremors, power outages ensued in the Indian state of Assam, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, otherwise known as the United Kingdom's Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, are visiting.

Italy lies near the fault line that exists between Eurasian and African tectonic plates. This area along the Apennine Mountains is “tectonically and geologically complex” according to the USGS, which notes “the Eurasia plate moves towards the northeast with respect to Africa at a rate of approximately 24 [millimeters per year].”

One hotel that collapsed in the small town of Amatrice, Italy probably had about 70 guests, and only seven bodies had so far been recovered, said the mayor of the town that was one of the worst hit by the quake.

Myanmar lies to the east of the Sunda Trench, another hot spot for quakes. In April 2016, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit the country, causing two deaths and dozens more injuries.

Earthquakes happen when one of the plates that cover the Earth scrapes, bumps, or drags along another plate. Both Italy and Myanmar are situated near areas where plates come together, and each has seen major earthquakes in the past.

Earthquake up to 7.2 hits Myanmar-India border

An earthquake of up to 7.2 in magnitude was detected at the Myanmar-India border region on Wednesday.

According to GEOFON Global Seismic Network, the tremor was estimated at 7.2, while the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a 6.9 earthquake in the area.

The quake's epicenter was some 100km (62 miles) from the city of Monywa in Myanmar, according to USGS.

A witness cited by Reuters reported strong tremors in the eastern Indian city of Guwahati.

Tremors were also reportedly felt as far away as India's former capital, Kolkata.

Buildings have been evacuated in Kolkata.

The tremor could be felt in the north-east Indian state of Assam, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are staying.

The royal couple, who are staying in a national park, were unharmed.

People in Myanmar's main city, Yangon, in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka, and in Kolkata in India fled buildings in panic when the tremor struck.

Tremors are relatively common in Myanmar (formerly known as Burma). This earthquake occurred at intermediate depth, according to the USGS, which means it took place within the Indian tectonic plate as it subducts beneath Eurasia.

Myanmar shaken by 5.9 magnitude earthquake

November 21, 2011 - GUWAHATI – An earthquake measuring 5.9on the Richter scale rocked India’s northeast, Myanmar and Bangladesh on Monday, triggering panic among people. The tremor was felt at 8.47 am in most parts of Assam, Nagaland, and Manipur, besides in Bangladesh and Myanmar. The epicenter was located at 24.947°N, 95.226°E in Myanmar, about 130 km east of Manipur capital Imphal, the website of US Geological Survey said. Seven northeastern states – Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur – are considered by seismologists to be the sixth most earthquake-prone belt in the world. The region experienced one of the worst earthquakes, measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale, in 1897, that claimed the lives of over 1,600 people. In September, more than 50 people died after a killer quake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale shook the region. –Times of India

Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano expels 5 km ash cloud in violent explosion

November 20, 2011 – MEXICO CITY - Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano spewed a burst of ash 3 miles (5 kilometers) into the air after magma broke through a dome of lava. Mexico’s National Disaster Prevention Center says Sunday’s explosion continues a series of moderate eruptions from the 17,886-foot (5,450-meter) volcano 40 miles (65 kilometers) southeast of the Mexican capital. The Disaster center says the volcano has been emitting small but steady streams of steam and gas since Friday. Mexico City Civil Protection Director Elias Moreno told Foro Television that there were no reports of danger or of ash falling on nearby communities. Popocatepetl has been erupting intermittently since December 1994.

Fourth moderate earthquake strikes off coast of North Island New Zealand in 3 days

November 21, 2011 – AUCKLAND, NZ – A 5.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It is the fourth moderate earthquake to rattle the region in three days. The epicenter of the earthquake was 154 km (95 miles) NE of Gisborne, New Zealand, 393 miles from Auckland and 556 km from Wellington. On November 18^th, a spasm of earthquakes erupted along this same tectonic boundary between the Pacific and Australian tectonic plates including 5.2 and 5.7foreshocks, followed by a stronger 6.0 magnitude earthquake. Today’s 5.1 magnitude earthquake was the shallowest earthquake yet in the series- erupting only some 2.5 km below the ocean floor.  No tsunami warnings were issued for today’s tremor. –The Extinction Protocol
