Last week, redOrbit reported that several new cases of human infection with H7N9 had been confirmed since the New Year began. There was no nuclear explosion, someone....i mean loads of people would have noticed had there been one.
 The explosion was a hydrogen explosion, not a nuclear explosion, there is a massive difference.
 It is bad, im not debating that, just the fear mongering in regards to the "nuclear explosions" the article states...which is not true at all.

Russia - Shiveluch volcano ash falls on village in Kamchatka. An eruption of Shiveluch took place at the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's northeast on Sunday.

El Salvador on Alert for Chaparrastique Volcano Activity - Environment officials are urging people not to approach the volcano crater and abide by the instructions issued by the General Department of Civil Protection. According to the latest special report, as vibrations persist and gases column is visible, the possibility of another eruption is not ruled out in the coming days or weeks through the central crater or the flanks. the vibration levels and emission have shown changes but remain.

Images captured by Web cameras installed northwest, southwest and south of the volcano indicate that the emission of gases from the crater have remained without significant changes and have reached a height of 150 meters. The Chaparrastique had an eruption on 29 December that forced the country's authorities to evacuate nearby populations. The performance of Civil Protection, in coordination with the various state agencies prevented loss of life and serious injuries.

New Virus Threat: Middle East Respiratory Syndrome

Now a virus that has caused respiratory failure and 30 deaths has turned up in Italy.

The World Health Organization says lab tests have confirmed the infections in a 2-year-old girl and a 42-year-old woman with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus, or MERS-CoV, as it's now called.

Both of the patients, who are in stable condition, are close contacts of someone who traveled to Jordan recently, the WHO says.

Illnesses caused by the virus have originated in Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, WHO says. In France, Germany, Italy, Tunisia and the United Kingdom, there have been additional cases seen in people who had traveled in the Middle East or who'd been in close contact with someone who had.

All told, there have been 53 cases where lab tests have showed conclusively that the virus was to blame, WHO says.

A recent French report on two cases (one involving a man who had traveled to Dubai and the other in a man who shared his hospital room) indicates that the incubation period for the virus may be as long as nine to 12 days, rather than one to nine days. That suggests that any quarantine of infected people may have to be prolonged to limit the spread of the virus.

Its deadliness lies in its mystery

On May 27, the Who director-general Margaret Chain called MERS a “threat to the whole world” because of too many unknown variables. She called it her “greatest concern” in the world’s health situation.

“We understand too little about this virus when viewed against the magnitude of its potential threat. Any new disease that is emerging faster than our understanding is never under control,” she said.

TORONTO – The World Health Organization is calling it “a threat to the entire world.”

And with good reason: the new SARS-like virus, named MERS-CoV, has now seeped into a handful of European nations, with 51 lab-confirmed cases, and 30 deaths.

It’s been over a year since the first few cases of the disease were identified in Amman, Jordan. In the past few weeks, it’s gained in speed: over the weekend, three more people died from the new respiratory virus.

The coronavirus can transmit from person to person

While it’s unclear how the virus is spreading from person to person, experts say the clusters of family members spreading the virus confirm that human-to-human transmission exists.

Global News takes a look at the novel coronavirus that has scientists anxiously watching its next move.

The first cases appeared in Jordan and Saudi Arabia

In April 2012, the first cluster of two cases – both fatal – tested positive for the coronavirus in Amman, Jordan. By October 2012, a second cluster that included four family members was identified. In that case, two people died, according to the
Centers for Disease Control.

By October 2010, another family of four was diagnosed with coronavirus. Two people died.

So far, most cases appear to be men between 24 and 94 years old.

New Strain of Bird flu in Danger of Spreading

Fifth death among 14 confirmed cases in China

BEIJING — A middle-aged man who transported poultry for a living and another unidentified person have died from a new strain of bird flu, bringing the death toll to five among 14 confirmed cases in China, the government and state media reported Thursday.

The 48-year-old man, who died in Shanghai, is one of several among the infected believed to have had direct contact with fowl. Until recently, the virus, called H7N9, was not known to infect humans.

New Bird Flu Strain Spreads in China as Fourth Dies

The new strain of bird flu that’s emerged in eastern China killed a fourth person, as the World Health Organization said drugs made by Roche Holding AG (ROG) and GlaxoSmithKline Plc (GSK) are effective against the deadly virus.

A poultry worker infected with the H7N9 strain of avian influenza died in Shanghai, and three more cases are suspected in the city, China’s official Xinhua News Agency reported today. The virus has infected at least 11 people, killing four of them since China’s health ministry reported the first cases last month, the wire service said.

Drug Demand

The new virus is sensitive to Roche’s Tamiflu and Glaxo’s Relenza treatments, Hartl said.

“There was some initial doubt but those doubts seem to have been put aside after a lot of work done in our collaborating center in Beijing,” he said.

Roche will provide an update on demand for Tamiflu when it reports quarterly sales, Daniel Grotzky, a spokesman for the Basel, Switzerland-based company, said in an e-mail. David Daley, a spokesman for London-based Glaxo, declined to comment on demand for Relenza.

Shanghai issued a level-3 flu alert on April 2, the second- lowest of four levels, following the deaths of the two men, ages 87 and 27, in China’s financial hub last month.

Investigations still haven’t uncovered how the two men contracted the virus, and tests have yet to prove whether it can be transmitted among humans, Wu Fan, head of the city’s disease control center, said at a briefing that day.
