A Paper by Robert C. Brand
STAR WARS TOMORROW?
A year or so after entering office, President Ronald Reagan announced to
the U.S. public and the world a new program which he named, Strategic
Defense Initiative. Exactly what this new program would consist of was
left unsaid except that it would provide a nuclear umbrella, which would
protect the United States from nuclear attack, by offensive weapons
directed at us through the atmosphere. Today, four years later, we find
that the U.S. government is spending large sums of money to develop this
program yet the taxpayers paying for this program still haven't been
told just what the program includes. In addition, most of the money
grants initially given for the development of lasers, etc., for the
Strategic Defense Initiative have now been cancelled meaning that they
were initially given as cover for what is really being developed.
Today we have only two descriptions of the program to give us clues. One
was when the program was announced and President Reagan state, "We
are launching an effort which holds the promise of changing the course
of human history" To build a shield over the United States to
protect it from missiles doesn't seem to be something that would
hold the promise of changing the course of human history. In addition,
it doesn't even hold the promise of protecting the United States
from attack as it would not protect against a nuclear bomb being placed
under water off the coast of the United States, for example, and
exploded with devastating effect to the United States.
Shortly after announcing the new program President Reagan invited all
the countries allied with the United States to share in and help develop
the program and it would appear that many, if not all, joined in. At the
same time it was announced that Russia was developing a "Strategic
Defense Initiative" of is own and it is probably safe to say that
many, if not all, of the countries allied with Russia would participate
in its development. It would thus appear that almost the entire world is
consuming a large amount of its material and human resources working on
an expensive, unannounced, program that is somehow connected with the
space above the world.
Our second clue as to what the program is all about came from U.S.
Senator Edward Kennedy who referred to the program as, "Star
Wars", a name that has stuck and is used almost daily, even by
government employees involved with the program.
In the year 1971 the U.S. Government received sufficient information to
develop a craft that utilizes a positive ion control unit for its
propulsion and one which would be capable of flying faster than the
generally stated velocity of light as measured on earth as well as being
capable of flying to other star systems. With the high velocity of
travel obtainable by the craft it could easily be used to defend against
enemy missiles by knocking them out before they had traveled a mile of
two from their silos. As such they could easily rightfully be referred
to as a Strategic Defense Initiative. (It could also rightfully be
referred to as a Strategic Offensive Initiative). The fact they could
travel, carrying passengers, to other star systems at velocities greater
than the velocity of light as measured on earth could be considered as
changing the course of human history
If Senator Kennedy's reference to "Star Wars" has any
validity to it, it would indicate that almost the entire world is
engaged in a massive program to build a defense system against an
invasion from outer space. The facts would indicate that maybe this is
the case as both Russia and the United States are putting satellites
into space that could direct missiles into outer space. Today we are
building missiles at a furious pace that exceed the number necessary to
fight a war on earth by a large amount.
For the past forty or so years the world has been building nuclear bombs
and now has somewhere around 200,000 of them, or much more than could
possibly be used for any purpose on earth. Is it possible that these
stockpiles of nuclear bombs are being constructed for use against an
invasion from outer space?
The positive ion control craft mentioned earlier is a unique craft
which, as we mentioned earlier, can travel faster than the velocity of
light as measure on earth, It can also be built in virtually any size or
shape (the saucer design, like the reported sightings of UFOs is
possibly the most practical for small crafts) and as such could be used
very effectively against an invasion of earth. For travel to other star
systems it could be built, for example, to carry a million or more
passengers (a city or state in itself) if so desired. Because of its ion
shield it is not only safe for passengers to travel in at these
velocities but is virtually impervious to any weapons system known to
date.
The fuel for a positive ion control craft is radioactive sodium with a
half life long enough, at the velocities traveled, to allow it to
explore the entire known universe and return to tell us about it in our
lifetime (it would only take about two weeks to hop-skip travel to the
"edge" of the known universe as determined by our optical and
radio telescopes. Of course, navigational equipment would present a
problem). In addition, it does not leave any harmful residue to pollute
the earth, or wherever. A propulsion unit such as this could also
produce, as a prime mover, electricity at extremely low cost.
One of the problems generally considered insurmountable to space travel
in a lifetime is the time it takes to accelerate while still maintaining
a livable gravity of acceleration on a craft with humans aboard.
However, with a craft such as this the acceleration can be rapid enough
to bypass this gravity problem (more about this later)
