Expect the Unexpected?

__________________________________________________
STRANGE UNEASE AND 'QUIET' SETTLE UPON US AS WE HEAR THIS: EXPECT EVENTS THAT ARE SUDDEN

The word we get is "sudden." There is this unusual calm out there. Is it a calm before a storm?
We say this, of course, at a time of financial unease, of doubts about our nation (and the world's future structure), and as actual storms are swirling out there (but not yet ashore).
There is that other word: unease.
People seem unsettled. They are pulling back. They are considering whether to batten the hatches. In short, they are waiting for the other shoe to drop.
We suggest that the Holy Spirit be sought to guide each person, for we will all have different needs in the future -- and only He knows what they will be. There is no set formula.
Odds are, it will drop when and in a way we least expect.
When we think of sudden, we can refer to that event of nine years ago called September 11. Recall how we all turned on the television or awoke to the first surprise: a plane (presumably, at first, a small plane) had "crashed" into the tower of the World Trade Center. We watched the unexpected smoke. We saw it grow unexpectedly. We learned that the plane was far larger than thought at first. Suddenly, there was a second plane. It was the same size. Suddenly, people were leaping from windows. With no warning, we learned that yet another plane hit the Pentagon, and another was over Pennsylvania. Most sudden of all: first one, and then the second tower, collapsed.
It was a day of the unexpected. And it arrived in a series of events. It should indicate to us that the next major event will be equally unpredictable -- and may have no visible build up.
It will just happen.
In history, we see how most mega-disasters occurred this way.
In the 1800s -- not two hundred years ago -- the world woke up to the explosion of a mountain in Indonesia called Tambora. The volcano blew smoke 28 miles high and killed 92,000. Some of them died from the fiery flow, but most succumbed to famine that set in as Tambora's ash ruined agriculture.
For months afterward untold others died as the ash from Tambora sailed into the stratosphere with gas and aerosols that reflected or absorbed solar radiation, causing the earth to cool by nearly two degrees and leading to what became known as "the year without summer."
That was 1816, and it brought snow during June and frosts every month of the year in parts of the U.S. All across the Northeast, crops were repeatedly killed in what a farmer from Bennington, Vermont, termed "the most gloomy and extraordinary weather ever seen." On June 7 another observer, this one from Connecticut, reported that he needed a pair of mittens and that clothes his wife had set out on the ground had frozen stiff. From June 6 to 9, severe frost occurred every night from Canada to Virginia. Temperatures swung as much as forty degrees in less than 24 hours. Leaves withered and fell off the trees. Farmers watched in exasperation as their crops blackened or shorn sheep perished. Birds froze to death. Wind patterns changed, there was continual rain in Europe, and assaults by typhus and cholera began. "Taking account also of the famine of 1816-1817, this was one of the very great world disasters associated with climate, almost comparable with the events of 1315-50," wrote H. H. Lamb. "In a lighter vein, we may note that Mary Shelley is said to have been inspired to invent Frankenstein by the events of 1816."
The winters also inspired Charles Dickens.
In 1883 -- that same century -- the world woke up to the explosion of a mountain in Indonesia called Krakatau, which erupted with such force that it was heard 2,900 miles away and created a tidal wave that rose to the height of 120 feet and killed 36,000.
These are sudden unexpected events with great consequences and they can occur at a level that is a magnitude greater.
We can let the imagination run wild.
Quick. Sudden.
Do you feel it?
What do some seers see?
It is ironic that one claims to have been told by Mary (in Brazil): "Dear Sons and Daughters, I am your sorrowful mother. I come from heaven to bring you my message of peace and conversion. Don't cross your arms. Open your hearts and accept the will of God for your lives. You live in a time of great spiritual confusions and my adversary will act with great fury to take you away from the way of God. Seek strength in prayer. Don't go away from the truth. Happen what may, don't let the devil win. You belong to the Lord and will be victorious with Him. Pray. Humanity is going towards an abyss of destruction that men have prepared with their own hands. A sleeping giant will arise in IndonĂ©sia and my poor children will drink the bitter cup of pain. No greater tragedy existed. Be strong and firm in faith. I will always be with you. A great destruction will be seen in Japan. Pray. Pray. Pray. This is the message I transmit to you today in the name of the Most Holy Trinity. Thank you for permitting me to reunite you here once more. I bless you in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Be at peace."
And at peace we are.
Let us not fall into unease. Or malaise.
Is it just a last-of-summer lull?
Use not the stock market as an augur (it knows nothing; it will be the first to be surprised).
Seers? When they mention so many places (this one has mentioned dozens just in the past few weeks), it gives us pause.
But...
There is that element of surprise, which is the only thing we truly expect: to see events come and move rapidly.
Fear?
For this we look back at the blessing conferred by the Lord upon His faithful servant Noah. Perhaps that way we too can receive the "Noah blessing": "Enter the ark, you and all your household, for you alone I have seen to be righteous before Me in this time. Noah did according to all that the Lord had commanded him" (Genesis7:1 and 7:5).
In prayer, he had listened, and with that had come protection.
Let us strive to be as faithful and intuitive and as unconcerned about worldliness as he was.

Now Research Test can Predict Alzheimer's

Spinal fluid proteins can help diagnose Alzheimer's

CHICAGO | Tue Aug 10, 2010 12:25pm EDT(Reuters) - Measuring certain proteins in spinal fluid can accurately diagnose Alzheimer's and predict which patients with memory problems will develop the fatal brain-wasting disease, Belgian researchers said on Monday.

And they may also help identify early signs of the disease in healthy people, the team reported in the Archives of Neurology.

"The unexpected presence of the Alzheimer's disease signature in more than one-third of cognitively normal subjects suggests that Alzheimer's disease pathology is active and detectable earlier than has heretofore been envisioned," Geert De Meyer of Ghent University in Belgium and colleagues wrote.

They said measuring traces of beta amyloid and tau -- two proteins associated with the telltale plaques and tangles that form in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's -- accurately detected Alzheimer's in 90 percent of patients with the disease.

They were also able to detect 100 percent of people with memory impairments who would progress to Alzheimer's disease within five years. And they detected Alzheimer's proteins in 36 percent of people with normal brain function.

The study is the latest to show that measuring disease-related proteins in spinal fluid is useful in diagnosing Alzheimer's disease.

Currently, only an autopsy can confirm that a person has Alzheimer's, a fatal and incurable deterioration of the brain that affects more than 26 million people globally.

Doctors diagnose Alzheimer's by excluding other causes of memory loss, such as stroke, tumors and heavy drinking. They can also administer simple paper-and-pencil tests.

But biomarkers -- proteins and imaging techniques -- are helping to identify the disease much earlier.

Last month, experts at the National Institute on Aging and the Alzheimer's Association proposed new guidelines for diagnosing Alzheimer's even before patients have symptoms. [ID:nN13273900] These proposed rules included measurements of cerebral-spinal fluid.

In the study, De Meyer and colleagues analyzed spinal fluid from 114 adults with normal brain function, 200 who had mild cognitive impairment -- a precursor to dementia -- and 102 who had Alzheimer's. They identified one protein signature that was associated with Alzheimer's, and another that indicated healthy brain function.

When they looked to see how accurate these signatures were at spotting the disease, they found 90 percent of those with Alzheimer's had the disease pattern in their spinal fluid. The pattern was present in 72 percent of those with mild cognitive impairment and 36 percent of those who were normal.

Restoring Honor in America with God, Lincoln, MLK & Beck

Restoring Honor in America with God, Lincoln, MLK & Beck

Glenn Beck delivered an unprecedented punch Saturday at his Restore Honor Rally.  Watching on UStream Live, at times it seemed like I was at Church, hearing a homily about patriotism and the intertwining of God in the founding of America. Just like as it often happens in church, towards then end I am getting bored.
Flipping channels, I also saw Reverend Al Sharpton's Reclaim the Dream Rally.  Clearly, Glenn Beck's Restore Honor Rally created much more fervor in the hearts of attendees with a much larger turnout.
The article, A Tale of Two Rallies reviews the days events noting that the Lincoln Memorial was packed a couple hours before the start of "Restoring Honor" while at 10:30am — Thirty minutes before his "Reclaim the Dream" rally start, Al Sharpton has some catching up to do.  http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/27080?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
Sharpton never really caught up, in as much as the mainstream media did it's best to discredit Beck and make it look like there was a larger turnout for Sharpton.
Reading other opinions and news on the events and I stumble into this photo from The New York Daily News, http://www.nydailynews.com.  Check out the cool little frog who is so small it fits inside Lincoln's head!

INDRANEIL DAS/AFP/Getty Images

Pretty neat photograph to illustrate just how small this frog is.  Wait a minute, why is "In God We Trust," blurry?  The top of Lincoln's head seems to be intact, but not the words.
The photo is credited to Indranil Das, an independent documentary photographer based in Kolkata, India. He travels widely to document the rich and wide variety of socio – political – economic scenarios prevailing in India.  (http://www.lightstalkers.org/indranil-das
Perhaps Mr. Das is a non-believer in God.  Does it matter if Das is a Hindu or a Baptist?  A penny is a penny.  A frog is a frog. Why take the effort to remove the words that are clearly there? In God We Trust.  Is God taboo?  Beck, Sharpton and others sure don't think so.
The Microhyla nepenthicola, is Asia's smallest frog.  It is all rather ironic that an acronym for F.R.O.G. is, Finally Relying On God.
Beck is a Mormon, Sharpton is a Pentecostal/Baptist, and the jury still debates what President Obama's religion is.  I don't know what religion Abe Lincoln was but, "Lincoln read the Bible regularly and was committed to God and morality throughout his life. Some historians call him a Deist," wrote http://www.adherents.com/people/pl/Abraham_Lincoln.html
Lincoln believed in God and freed millions from slavery.  Obama was sworn in on his Bible.  "Malia Obama, the 10-year-old daughter of President-elect Obama, plans to make herself right at home in the White House and has already called dibs on using Abraham Lincoln's desk for her homework. http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/President44/story?id=6339711&page=1
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character, said "Martin Luther King, delivered 28 August 1963, at the Lincoln Memorial, Washington D.C. - The full speech is at http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/mlkihaveadream.htm
Is it honorable in America to protest a Muslim mosque near ground zero in NYC?  UncleRUSH, aka Russell Simmons of Def Jam records doesn't think so in a recent letter to the WSJ. http://globalgrind.com/channel/news/content/1764666/come-with-me-to-tennessee-or-stay-out-of-my-backyard/?pc=1&pi=0
Let's hope the spirit of Abe Lincoln and Martin Luther King, and the words of Glenn Beck and Al Sharpton bring America together, in the name of God to do what is right, just and moral in this Republic.  We are, one nation under God.

Sanhedrin Launched In Tiberias

Follow Israel news on Twitter and Facebook.

A unique ceremony - probably only the second of its kind in the past 1,600 years - is taking place in Tiberias today: The launching of a Sanhedrin, the highest Jewish-legal tribunal in the Land of Israel.

The Sanhedrin, a religious assembly that convened in one of the Holy Temple chambers in Jerusalem, comprised 71 sages and existed during the Tannaitic period, from several decades before the Common Era until roughly 425 C.E. Details of today's ceremony are still sketchy, but the organizers' announced their intention to convene 71 rabbis who have received special rabbinic ordination as specified by Maimonides.

An attempt to reconvene the Sanhedrin was made several centuries ago in Tzfat. The body in fact ordained such greats as Rabbi Yosef Karo, the author of the classic Jewish Law code Shulhan Arukh. However, the opposition of other leading rabbis soon forced the end of the endeavor.

One of the leaders of today's attempt to revive the Sanhedrin is Rabbi Yeshai Ba'avad of Beit El. He said that the 71 rabbis "from across the spectrum received the special ordination, in accordance with Maimonides' rulings, over the past several months." Rabbi Ba'avad explained that the membership of the new body is not permanent: "What is much more crucial is the establishment of this body. Those who are members of it today will not necessarily be its members tomorrow. But the goal is to have one rabbinic body in Jerusalem that will convene monthly and issue rulings on central issues. This is the need of the generation and of the hour."

Rabbi Yisrael Ariel, who heads the Temple institute in Jerusalem, is one of the participating rabbis. He told Arutz-7 today, "Whether this will be the actual Sanhedrin that we await, is a question of time - just like the establishment of the State; we rejoiced in it, but we are still awaiting something much more ideal. It's a process. Today's ceremony is really the continuation of the renewal of the Ordination process in Israel, which we marked several months ago. Our Talmudic Sages describe the ten stages of exile of the Sanhedrin from Jerusalem to other locations, until it ended in Tiberias - and this is the place where it was foretold that it would be renewed, and from here it will be relocated to Jerusalem."

Rabbi Ariel said that the rabbis there included many from the entire spectrum:
"Hareidi, religious-Zionist, Sephardi, Ashkenazi, hassidi, and many others - such as Rabbi Yoel Schwartz, Rabbi Adin Shteinzaltz, and many others... We can't expect a great consensus; that's not how things work here. But sometimes that's how the process goes, from the bottom up."

Sun ramping up for Solar Max

Sun storm to hit with 'force of 100m bombs'

AFTER 10 years of comparative slumber, the sun is waking up - and it's got astronomers on full alert.

This week several US media outlets reported that NASA was warning the massive flare that caused spectacular light shows on Earth earlier this month was just a precursor to a massive solar storm building that had the potential to wipe out the entire planet's power grid.

NASA has since rebutted those reports, saying it could come "100 years away or just 100 days", but an Australian astronomer says the space community is betting on the sooner scenario rather than the latter.

Despite its rebuttal, NASA's been watching out for this storm since 2006 and reports from the US this week claim the storms could hit on that most Hollywood of disaster dates - 2012.

Similar storms back in 1859 and 1921 caused worldwide chaos, wiping out telegraph wires on a massive scale.

The 2012 storm has the potential to be even more disruptive.

"The general consensus among general astronomers (and certainly solar astronomers) is that this coming Solar maximum (2012 but possibly later into 2013) will be the most violent in 100 years," astronomy lecturer and columnist Dave Reneke said.

"A bold statement and one taken seriously by those it will affect most, namely airline companies, communications companies and anyone working with modern GPS systems.

"They can even trip circuit breakers and knock out orbiting satellites, as has already been done this year."

Regardless, the point astronomers are making is it doesn't matter if the next Solar Max isn't the worst in history, or even as bad as the 1859 storms.

It's the fact that there hasn't been one since the mid-80s. Commodore had just launched the Amiga and the only digital storm making the news was Tetris.

No one really knows what effect the 2012-2013 Solar Max will have on today's digital-reliant society.

Dr Richard Fisher, director of NASA's Heliophysics division, told Mr Reneke the super storm would hit like "a bolt of lightning", causing catastrophic consequences for the world's health, emergency services and national security unless precautions are taken.

US government officials earlier this year took part in a "tabletop exercise" in Boulder, Colorado, to map out what might happen if the Earth was hit with a storm as intense as the 1859 and 1921 storms.

The 1859 storm was of a similar size to that predicted by NASA to hit within the next three years – one of decreased activity, but more powerful eruptions.

NASA said that a recent report by the National Academy of Sciences found that if a similar storm occurred today, it could cause "$1 to 2 trillion in damages to society's high-tech infrastructure and require four to 10 years for complete recovery".

Staff at the Space Weather Prediction Center in Colorado, which hosted the exercise, said with our reliance on satellite technology, such an event could hit the Earth with the magnitude of a global hurricane or earthquake.

The reason for the concern comes as the sun enters a phase known as Solar Cycle 24.

All the alarming news building around the event is being fuelled by two things.

The first is a book by disaster expert Lawrence E. Joseph, Guilty of Apocalypse: The Case Against 2012, in which he claims the "Hurricane Katrina for the Earth" may cause unprecedented planetwide upheaval.

The second is a theory that claims sunspots travel through the sun on a "conveyor belt" similar to the Great Ocean Conveyor Belt which controls weather on Earth.

The belt carries magnetic fields through the sun. When they hit the surface, they explode as sunspots.

Weakened, they then travel back through the sun's core to recharge.

It all happens on a rough 40-50-year cycle, according to solar physicist David Hathaway of the National Space Science and Technology Center in the US.

He says when the belt speeds up, lots of magnetic fields are collected, which points to more intense future activity.

"The belt was turning fast in 1986-1996," Prof Hathaway said.

"Old magnetic fields swept up then should reappear as big sunspots in 2010-2011."

Most experts agree, although those who put the date of Solar Max in 2012 are getting the most press.

They claim satellites will be aged by 50 years, rendering GPS even more useless than ever, and the blast will have the equivalent energy of 100 million hydrogen bombs.

"We know it is coming but we don't know how bad it is going to be," Dr Fisher told Mr Reneke in the most recent issue of Australasian Science.

"Systems will just not work. The flares change the magnetic field on the Earth and it's rapid, just like a lightning bolt.

"That's the solar effect."
