
May 22, 2012 – BULGARIA – A very strong shallow 5.8 magnitude earthquake has struck the region of Bulgaria north of Pernik. The depth of the earthquake was 9.1 km (5.7 miles) and the epicenter 24 km (14 miles) W of SOFIA, Bulgaria and east of Route 63 near Meshtitsa. SW Bulgaria is a region of the country especially prone to large seismic earthquakes. There is no word yet on injuries or damage from today's earthquake.
