X-class solar flare amid dwindling sunspots
An X-1 solar flare erupted March 5 amid very low sunspots. It just goes to show the Solar Cycle 24 is strange, indeed. A huge X-class flare erupted during the last solar maximum in 2006 on December 13. Like the X-class flare on March 5, it just popped up in the midst of very low sunspots. And it was in a minimum cycle to boot.
