Authorities said the sinkhole developed along a sidewalk near Westheimer and Fountain View around 8:45 and swallowed a cable television pole. Both directions of Westheimer were closed for a few hours while crews worked on the scene. A Centerpoint Energy official said cable television would be interrupted for about a day in the immediate shopping area.
