UPDATE, TUE, 5:00 AM: No major damage has been reported from a minor earthquake that shook areas around the small town of Equality in southern Illinois.
The National Earthquake Information Center in Denver says the quake hit just before 4:00 PM Monday and registered a magnitude 3.6.
It was centered near Equality, Illinois, but it was felt by people as far away as Posey, Vanderburgh and even Henderson Counties.
USI Geologist Paul Doss says the epicenter was more than three miles deep and that accounts for why it was felt so far away. Doss also says it's coincidence that there have been nearly 30 earthquakes around the world since 7:00 Sunday night.

And while the Tri-State was spared from tornadoes, some areas in Kentucky weren't so lucky. Monday's storms spawned at least two reported tornadoes that caused damage in Hardin and Lincoln Counties.
In Hardin County, the storm leveled a food store, damaged homes and downed power lines and trees.
Hardin County school officials have called off classes for Tuesday.
Lincoln County authorities in central Kentucky reported that four or five homes were destroyed and four or five others damaged in the McKinney-area.
Officials say there were no reports of injuries in either county.
UPDATE, 4:15PM CST: The U.S. Geological Survey reports that a 3.6 magnitude earthquake occurred at 3:48pm CST in southern Illinois.
The epicenter was about 46 miles southwest of Evansville, near Eldorado, Illinois. There are no reports of damage or injuries.
EARLIER: Evansville residents report feeling a slight shaking just before 4pm CST Monday afternoon.
Early reports indicate a small earthquake occurred in the area. Newswatch is checking and will post any new information as it becomes available.
