Pu Ehr Tea - Does it Stink? - Dr. Oz Weight Loss

Does White Tea Contain EGCG?

The Dr. Oz weight loss diet provides a  variety of tips and dietary choices which can aid in weight loss.

One of the  metabolism boosting tips which is recommended are various types  of teas which are known to help increase metabolism and help your body to  naturally burn more fat to aid in weight loss.

Green, black, white, red – the vast array of tea varieties can be dizzying. With the sudden upsurge of interest in high-quality loose-leaf teas, where does a newcomer begin? How about starting with the one plant that produces every tea in the world?

The Camellia sinensis is an evergreen native of China. It takes a variety of forms, growing 15 to 20 meters tall, with leaves ranging from smooth and shiny to fuzzy and white-haired. The plant gives rise to more than 3,000 varieties of tea worldwide, which can be roughly classified into six basic categories: white, green, oolong, black (the Chinese call these red teas), pu-erh, and flavored. Some specialists would add another category, blends.

And then there are countless herbal infusions, informally referred to as “tea” but entirely unrelated to “real” tea made from Camellia sinensis leaves

The four teas which are  recommended by Dr. Oz for weight loss are Pu-erh tea, White tea, Chickwood tea and Bilberry tea. The  theory behind this is that by drinking one of the four teas during a specific  time of the day or night you can  aid your body in both shrinking fat cells  as well as burning fat at a faster rate. Let's learn a little more  about each tea so that you can understand the unique benefits which these four  herbal teas have to offer for your weight loss success.

Pu-Erh Tea
(pronounced 'poo air')

Pu-erh (or Puer) tea is in a category all its own. Though it could simply be classified as a type of Chinese black tea, it is differentiated from other black teas by the fact that it is fermented not once, but twice. The double oxidation process is followed by a period of maturation, which is often used to develop a thin layer of mold on the leaves. The mold (maybe it does stink!) imparts a distinctive soil-like flavor that many people find off-putting. For this reason, pu-erh tea is often consumed for medicinal purposes rather than for pleasure – aside from being known for its strong earthy quality, it is recognized as a powerful digestive aid.

This tea features a unique bold and robust  flavor and is known for its metabolism boosting characteristics which are often  used as an all-natural weight loss supplement. The recommended time of  consumption for Pu-Erh tea is during the morning hours due to the energy  boosting qualities which you will experience. This tea is native to the Yunnan  province of China where the health benefits of this bold, earthy tea have long  been known to aid in the burning of fat cells, aiding in the process of  digestion and helping with weight loss. It is suggested that you consume two  cups of Pu-Erh tea each morning to maximize its' weight loss benefits.

White Tea

White tea is the rarest of all tea types. A specialty of Fujian province on China’s east coast, it was relatively hard to come by outside of China until recently. The name comes from the almost colorless liquor, and from the silvery hairs found on the buds of the plant. Delicate in flavor as well as color, the tea has a subtle, slightly sweet flavor and a mellow creamy or nutty quality. White tea consists of the whitish buds of the tea plant; lower quality varieties contain some leaves as well. The buds (and leaves) are naturally dried using either sun drying or steaming methods. This is the final step in the production process, as white tea is not fermented.

This tea has a pleasant light delicate  taste which is naturally sweet and fairly low in caffeine. White tea originates  from the Fujian province of China and is now grown in other parts of the world  as well such as Thailand and Taiwan. This is the least processed of all teas  and is created by steaming and drying select silver buds and leaves. This tea  is suggested to be consumed during the afternoon hours just prior to lunch as  it can aid in the decreased absorption of fat if consumed just before a  meal.  The ingredient which is known to  aid in this reduction of fat absorption is EGCG* and is prevalent in quality  White teas. Another added benefit of this type of tea is that it also has the  ability to help reduce stress levels due to the presence of Theanine within  White tea as well.

Chickweed Herbal Tea
Chickweed tea is a light tea which is  somewhat bitter and typically will need to be sweetened with an artificial  sweetener to make it more appealing. Chickweed tea is thought to be a natural  diuretic which can act as a mild natural laxative which can aid in cleaning out  and regulating the digestive system. A single cup of this tea is suggested to  be consumed in the afternoon hours which can aid in bloating and help to rid  unwanted water weight from the body as well. This healthy herbal tea is known  to be high in potassium which can aid in the reduction of midday cravings and also contains a variety of other essential vitamins and nutrients such as  Magnesium, Calcium and Vitamin C in small amounts.

Bilberry Herbal Tea
This pleasant tasting herbal tea features  a naturally sweet and fruity taste which has been consumed for many years  around the world due to the many known health benefits which it offers. It is  recommended that you consume a single cup of this pleasant tasting tea in the  evening due to the natural ability of leveling the blood sugar which this tea  offers. Leveling out the blood sugar is a great way to naturally  decrease cravings which will help you stick to your diet plan. Bilberry tea  offers some amounts of anthocyanosides which are known to provide a variety of  health benefits such as; improve eye health, aid in digestion, improve circulation, combat heart  disease and even aid in the treatment of diabetes due to the blood sugar factor

*EGCG is the most abundant catechin in tea and is a potent antioxidant that may have therapeutic applications in the treatment of many disorders (e.g. cancer). It is found in green tea but not black tea; during black tea production, the catechins are converted to theaflavins and thearubigins.[3] In a high temperature environment, an epimerization change is more likely to occur; however as exposure to boiling water for 30 straight minutes only leads to a 12.4% reduction in the total amount of EGCG, the amount lost in a brief exposure is insignificant. In fact, even when special conditions were used to create temperatures well-above that of boiling water, the amount lost scaled up only slightly.[4] EGCG can be found in many supplements. White Tea in Weight Loss

Green tea has been touted as a useful weight loss agent, primarily in combination with other weight management tools. A 2009 study in "Nutrition and Metabolism" revealed that white tea possesses the same property. White tea extract effectively reduces the deposition of triglycerides in human adipocytes, or fat cells, and promotes the breakdown of fats. White tea's EGCG was thought to be at least partially responsible for these observations.

Teas Vary Considerably in EGCG Content

Some people believe that teas can be graded according to their EGCG content, and that one "color" of tea contains more catechins than another. However, as was demonstrated in the August 2010 "Journal of Food Science," the total catechin content of both green and white teas varies more than tenfold, and a considerable amount of overlap exists between the different types of tea. The authors of this study concluded that the source, cultivation and processing of a given tea may have more influence on its content of important constituents than whether it is green or white.

Considerations

White tea is a good source of EGCG and is a viable alternative to green tea for people who seek a slightly different flavor but still want to take advantage of EGCG's health benefits. Studies show that the two types of tea are essentially equivalent in their catechin content, depending on the tea's source and processing. And, as shown in a 2008 "Journal of Analytical Toxicology" study, there is not an appreciable difference in caffeine content between green and white teas.

I love Green Tea! It is really effective and useful for the health! I try to drink 2-3 cups of pure green tea without any additives. The same effect has the ginger tea. It has a specific taste but it is beneficial.
It is better to use it in the morning.
