NASA shut down its WISE spacecraft – short for Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer – at 3:00 p.m. EST (2000 UTC) today. The mission's principal investigator, Ned Wright of the University of California in Los Angeles, sent the final command to the now-hibernating spacecraft, according to an update from the WISE mission's official Twitter account.
"The WISE spacecraft will remain in hibernation without ground contacts awaiting possible future use," NASA officials said via Twitter.

In latest development now we learns 10 page letter is already out on the web since October 2010, which proves that US NASA and the White House know about ELENIN and consider it “a real threat” (On October 11, 2011 Elenin will be only 0.246au away from Earth; that’s a quarter of the distance to the sun.) it`s possible even more dangerous against earth than we understand.
They are calculating and preparing to if possible take action against this Comet. John Holdren, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, or OSTP, outlines plans for “(A) protecting the United States from a near-Earth object that is expected to collide with Earth.
Interestingly, Comet C/2010 X1 (Elenin) was only “discovered” by oddly named civilian "Leonid Elenin" on December 10, 2010, in the official White House letter written back in late October 2010, the White House addressed the possibility of an Comet/Asteroid striking the Earth.

The object was monitored a total of 42 times between December 28th 2005 and January 23rd of 2006. Since then, this object has been speeding along its orbit around the sun, out of sight. The next opportunity to view this asteroid will come in less than a year, on April 19th of 2010. It will pass, according to estimates somewhere between the earth and the moon. The distance for the April, 2010 encounter is estimated at around 150,000 miles.
The estimate for the November 8, 2011 visit is guessed at around 95,000 miles. That close, but it doesn’t sound too close, it will probably just fly right by, no problem for us. But wait a minute, before you get too comfortable, these estimates are based on a very short observation period and in fact, these numbers are just estimates, educated guesses at best. "
