the Catholic vote

Dear Tony,

Before I give you some important election tools as well as my biweekly column, please note: Our Priests for Life pastoral team is visiting the halls of Congress today, tomorrow, and Thursday, and going to as many offices of pro-abortion members as possible.

On Thursday we will have a major press conference at the National Press Club, and will have diagrams of the abortion procedure on display.

If you have a blog or publication of any kind, we invite you to cover our press conference. My statement to the press and other details will be released on www.PoliticalResponsibility.com.

By the way, have you signed up yet as a subscriber to my You Tube channel? Doing so will help us get more traffic to our pro-life videos on You Tube, and will help you to receive updates on key video resources that we post there! See www.YouTube.com/frfrankpavone and sign up as a subscriber today!

I am happy to announce that EWTN is airing our special mini-series on the elections. This is an excellent way to educate family, friends, and parishioners. Just let them know when it's going to be on and encourage them to watch! The special series is already underway, and the remaining episodes will be aired on EWTN on the following days at 3am, 12am, 6:30pm and 3:30pm ET.

Episode 4: Tuesday, September 16th

Episode 5: Monday, September 22nd

Episode 6: Tuesday, September 23rd

Two other tools you can use in upcoming days are these:

1. Friday night September 26 will be the first Presidential debate. Why not have a "debate-watching party" at your home? Invite people over and watch it together. This is a great way to help educate others about where the candidates stand, especially if they might not watch the debate on their own. Have additional information available about the elections.

2. Monday night September 29 will be our next national teleseminar to train activists on what to do to increase voter turnout and voter education. Join us from 9 to 10pm Eastern time either by phone or internet. Sign up at www.priestsforlife.org/conferencecall/index.aspx.

Let me also provide you with the upcoming schedules for our own TV shows and Radio programming:

Hear us on EWTN radio on Catholic Connection with Teresa Tomeo. I am her guest every Wednesday at 9:30am ET and Janet Morana is her guest every Friday at 9:10am ET. For radio station information and to listen to the live show on the internet, go to www.avemariaradio.net

Defending Life: Watch on EWTN every Friday at 10pm ET and Saturday at 2:30am ET. Listen on EWTN radio every Friday at 1am ET, Saturday at 6:30pm ET and Sunday at 5am ET. For more information or to listen online go to www.ewtn.com.

September 19-21: Spirituality of Being pro-Life, Part Two. Involvement in the pro-life movement is shaped by particular virtues and characteristics. Fr. Frank describes this spirituality, in which he has trained thousands of priests, deacons, seminarians, and lay activists over the years and around the world.

September 26-28: Reaching out by Preaching out to the 'Choir,' the 'Estranged' and all in Between. Fr. Wilde has preached the pro-life message full time with Priests for Life since 1998, and shares the wisdom and experience he has gathered about how to convey that message with conviction and compassion.

Gospel of Life: Watch on the Angel One channel on Sky Angel Satellite (www.skyangel.com) or Angle One channel 262 on the Dish Network: Wednesday's at 11:30pm ET. Watch on Catholic Familyland, Sky Angel 9717 (www.familyland.tv): Sunday at 1am ET, Monday at 9am ET and Thursday at 11:30pm ET. Listen to Gospel of Life episodes online at www.gospeloflife.com.

Week of September 14: The Presidency and Abortion

Week of September 21: Challenging Abortion Supporters

Life on the Line radio program. Go to www.lifeontheline.com/listen/index.htm for stations and airing times.

September 20-21: Sign of Victory, Part 1. Speaking at a 2007 banquet, before Legatus, a ministry of Catholic business leaders, Fr. Frank shares some signs of victory for the culture of life.

September 27-28: Signs of Victory, Part 2

Please tune in and spread the word! In fact, you can help us - and your whole parish -- by asking your pastor to place in the parish bulletin an announcement about our TV shows. Thanks in advance!

Blessings and prayers,

Staring Death in the Eye

A few of my colleagues in the pro-life movement have at times made the blanket generalization that showing pictures of aborted babies "doesn't work" or is "counterproductive." They say people already know abortion is evil, and seeing the photos will only turn them away from our movement. Nor, they say, will the photos persuade someone not to have an abortion.

May I present some evidence to the contrary. These are three of hundreds of emails I receive from people who see these photos at www.priestsforlife.org/images.

1. "Up until I visited this site I had been prochoice. I thought that I would do an Internet search to see exactly what an abortion entails. After seeing the images on your site, there was no decision to be made. I figured that whatever hardships having a baby at this time would bring me would be far easier than living with the guilt I knew I would never rid myself of if I was to get an abortion. The pictures had such a powerful effect on me. They helped me to be strong and realize that this pregnancy was made possible by God and if it wasn't meant to be, that was His choice, not mine."

2. "Hello, I am a sixteen-year-old female and I just finished looking at the pictures on your site and reading what actually happens during an abortion. Up until five minutes ago I was extremely pro-choice. Because of your site, I realize that abortion is not a choice about a woman's body...it is the LIFE of a BABY. Never before did I realize how truly horrible and careless abortion really is. Maybe it's because I'd never seen the pictures, or read the actual descriptions of abortion. Maybe I was too afraid to know the truth. But within 3 minutes of viewing your website, my face was covered in tears. Those pictures just really hurt to look at. I cannot express how grateful I am that you have shown me the truth about abortion. God bless you."

3. "Thank you so much for your website. I am 14 weeks pregnant and my partner wants me to have an abortion. ... so I thought about it. I got on the internet trying to see how much it cost and I was lead to your site. I wanted to see what happens and what they look like at 14 weeks. Thanks to your site. I am not going to do it. I am unable to commit murder. That is like killing my own children at their age. This is a remarkable website. Everyone should see this site before they consider having an abortion. Everyone needs to see this to determine if they are able to live with themselves after doing this".

Many other messages like these are posted at www.priestsforlife.org/images.

Now if someone prefers not to use the photos, that's fine. Many others will, and there are many other kinds of pro-life work to go around. But please don't say the photos don't work. They certainly do.

Praise for our Work!

Father Pavone: Recently an email was sent to me with a link to your video [on youtube]. After watching a response was necessary.

This is one of the most terrible, loathsome, sickening, awful (in both senses of the word) AND most necessary videos I have ever watched. Just now, not 5 minutes ago I watched it and it so deeply affected me. I have never been a proponent of abortion, in fact it is and has been my firm belief that abortion is wrong. Still this video is necessary because it tells the truth and could convince someone who is on the edge. We do have to remember that the violence of abortion does not make it wrong. It is wrong because our Lord says it is wrong.

I will be sending the email on to friends and acquaintances whether I know their stance or not. I have many friends both Christian & not who will find this email as disturbing as I but will recognize it's importance. Thank you for producing it.

Ciertamente funcionan.
